Hi,
how do you change the gearbox oil in the car above? where are the plugs etc?

if i get it done at a garage how much would it be?

Thanks

Jamosj

Yes, it's the 722.6.
There is no drain plug onthe torque converter so only the box can be drained then the rest drained by losening the cooler pipe and running the engine after adding a couple of litres of freash ATF.

Do a search of the forum for ATF change. It's easy but a bit involved.

Hi,
No No not an auto !! a 6 speed manual !!

There is a filler plug on the side and a drain plug at the bottom. Always undo the filler plug first in case it can't be undone after you have drained the gearbox.
I don't know the quantity of oil required but about 2 litres would be fairly typical.

hi,

Thanks for info. sounds like my input thrust bearing is going, so thought i would change the oil to see if that helps and so that i can diagnose further etc.

I am not sure whether to do it myself or take it to a garage? wonder how much it would cost?

Thanks

Changing the oil will have no effect onthe thrust bearing, if indeed that's what you mean.
If you maen the input shaft bearing then I doubt the oil change will have much effect there either unless the oil level is low.
Be prepared to strip the box and change the bearing.

Hi,

Yes sounds like the input shaft bearing and what people on here have told me. is this a hard job for a basic mechanic(me)? or best in a garage? I am just wondering if it is low on oil that is why i was going to change it as we are probably going to p/x soon. thanks for your help

If the input (first motion) shaft bearings fail you will scrap the box in a very short time. If you have never stripped/repaired a gearbox before i suggest you leave to the experts (indie cheaper than MB).

Hi,

Thanks for info. Can you recommend anyone around the portsmouth, hampshire area?

Thanks
