Hi,

Recently i had a new thermostat to cure cold running which did the trick now runs @ 80c. However since replacing the coolant and topped to the right level it has dropped and there was a yellow sludge which smells oily?? Have checked the dipstick and filler cap is clean and engine does not overheat....could it have been an air lock?? HELP

hi ed220
if your not using any water, and header tank/expantion tank water level is at max level, it could be just a build up of gunge in cooling system that new antifreeze is clearing out,..

Thanks for the replies, checked the level again this morning has dropped a little more, think i will leave for a bit and see what happens. Used a coolant mix from german and swedish and was correct for the car. I cannot imagine the head gasket has blown as filler cap is very clean and mpg good at £40 = 410 miles......watch this space.....

Waiting game

Could be that the system is just settling down after your coolant change as you suggest.:) :) When my last head gasket blew the only trace in the oil was a tiny white line of oil emulsion in the oil quite difficult to see. The other sign was a brown/black scum in the coolant reservoir. Best just to monitor it carefully for a while and see what happens.;)

Cool, thanks for the advice....fingers crossed..
