Hallo all,

2 weeks ago i bought a C220 CDI '01
It normally starts very quick.
BUT !! For these 2 weeks, since i bought it, i had problem starting it 3 times (happened just 3 times)
It needs maybe 5-10 minutes of turning, until it starts.
Last time, i started, moved the car 500 yards down the road next to a shop, came back in 5 minutes, and it did it again.AND IT STARTED JUST FINE 5 MINUTES AGO !!!!

I hope some1 has any idea, what could cause that problem.
:) Thank You

There be a few issues that cause this systoms have got a EML/EDC light on at all or had it on a diagnostic computer.

Just it just have problems starting when the engine is still warm from a drive or at all times? If you have difficulty in warm starts then it may be crank shaft sensor problems.

I would suggest searching the forum for threads relating to problems starting the W203 as there are a number of them on here.

Sounds like a 'crankshaft position sensor' fault to me. (about £80 for the part and very easy to fit)

as i said, it happened 3 times, 1st was early in the morning (cold engine)
2nd time, was after i finished work, (cold engine)
and 3rd time, was after the car was driven for about 2 minutes.
But, it started 100% normally every other morning.
I get no warning lights on the dash.
Thank you for the replays, i hope some1 has a clue :)

Sounds like a CAS fault, but these engines also suffer from faulty injector pressure leak off valves. This problem normally affects cold starts.

Easily tested by removing the return fuel pipe from the top of each injector, fitting a length of washer pipe onto each injector, with other end in 4 seperate cups. Run engine at idle for about 20 seconds, and if one injector has filled cup up more than the others you have found your faulty injector. When experienced (I have had two fail on my old W203) you just remove the fuel returns and blip the starter whilst looking through the bonnet gap at the injectors. Very easy to see the faulty one.

About £140 for new one on exchange from MB, or around £110 exchange from injector re-con agents. Parts only.

Dependin on part number injectors i think mb ones are near 187 plus vat exchange

Could be I was lucky, but mine definitely cost £140 ish from MB, and was brand new. Strange that I had to return my old one.

Thank you for ur answer NAIFAN,
I just have 2 questions :)

does "CAS" stands for "Car Access System" ????
And, if it does, how can i check, if the fault is there ???
cheers

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor. Without any diagnostic tools, the only option is to replace it and see. If you can get diagnostics done on it, it should show up. Certainly error codes on STAR system will be present if faulty.

Get them from your local dealer and replace all of them.

get a leak back test done on your injectors
