C220 CDI W204
Hello guys. I own a W204 C220 CDI 2008. I have a problem for which i couldn't find a solution. While im driving up an incline i hear a scraping sound coming from beneath the gear selector. It happens around 1800-2000 RPM and if i accelerate faster the scraping sound stops but if I maintain at 1800-2000 RPM it gets worse. Any suggestions what could it be? :dk:

No noise above or below those rpm? If so, it's almost certainly something resonating at that point.
Immediate thoughts are propshaft slightly out of balance, engine/ gearbox mounts worn allowing something to vibrate, loose undertray, and so on.
I'd get it up of the ground, ideally a four poster lift, get someone to throttle the engine until you can hear that noise then home in on it

Is your car an automatic?

it could be a converter shudder issue, your Merc dealer can turn off the lockup function with star and try it again to see if the noise has stopped when the lockup is turned off,

if it does you may have glycol in the transmission fluid, big trouble mate, get it checked out before it gets to bad,

Merc dealer can test the amount of glycol in the fluid, if its below a minimum limit then a replacement radiator and a fluid flush can fix it,

if its over that limit then your transmission will need to be rebuilt and the converter replaced along with the radiator.
