Hi all!

Was out in the C220 (W202) earlier and noticed it was making a heavy gurgling sound with a rattle when pushed a bit. I have a feeling that its the exhaust thats developed a movement somewhere and opened up on a joint. It sounds like its coming directly from under the drivers side, any ideas?

Oh, one other thing, it also seems to be dropping revs very quickly when its started, sometimes to around 500rpm, and when it dips lower it stalls.

Just wondered if I need to have the rev's upped a bit or something? Any ideas appreciated. What should the revs be running at?

thanks guys!!

Possibly the cat is blocked but more likley the engine is firing on three cylinders.

Is the tick over lumpy and is acceleration poor?

Hi Dieselman

Funny thing is I had a CAT problem on my old Vectra, which sounded just the same (sort of tinny and echoey when pushed)

It starts nicely enough, its not lumpy on idle, and goes like hot sh!t off a shovel when pushed. Sometimes it does stall right after starting it up, when its going it doesnt rattle, shake abou or anything.

Any idea what it could be but the cat?

thanks guys.

UPDATE:

Went to see two of my mechanic friends and both suggest its the CAT. He got under the car and gave it a knock and we could hear it rattling inside.

Any Ideas guys?

Same thing happened on my old C220. It was only about 6months old and the cat collapsed coming back from Leeds. It blocked the pipe and I had to drive down the A1 at 50mph, bad experience.
The only option is to get a new cat I'm afraid.
