Hi All,

Just wanted to know if it is possible to buy a brand new replacement engine and manual gearbox for a C230 Kompressor W202 1998?

Would this still be avaliable from Mercedes and any indication of costs associated?

Part Numbers?

Thanks

You may be able to get the gearbox i think but dont think you will be able to get the engine. It will be very expensive either way brand new. Whats wrong with your engine and gearbox?

Nothing wrong with either at the moment thank god...just some crazy future planning going on in my head. I was toying with the idea of maybe buying a brand new engine and gearbox if they are still avaliable direct from Mercedes and just have it sit on a pallet in the garage until needed.

I get attached to things I love and I would never want to find myself in a situation where either the engine or gearbox pack up and im left having to search for something as rare as this, and if I was going to replace the engine which I would if it packed up or gearbox for that matter then id only replace it with a new one if possible because then id really get a chance to break it in and have fun for years to come!

You'll still be able to buy them, but expect to pay around £13k

Loads of perfect used engines floating around.

The C230K Engine isn't renowned for failing... when it gets over 200k miles, then you might have to worry about components surround the engine (supercharger), but never the engine itself! This particular engine is one of the toughest mercedes 4 cyl engines there is.

Gearboxes are also not common to fail (assuming auto?) if you service them. If its manual, you can pick some up for £100 from a breakers.

Thanks guys!

Will keep my options open for the time being.

My car has just gone past 151,200 miles and the thing is I still push it as if it was new of the production line and it still goes like its just out the factory, just cant imagine having to change my car.

Ive become so used to the speed and agility of the car that anything other than a full blown AMG will not do and in todays economic conditions I think the 2.3 Kompressor unit delivers the best punch for your pound, I can still get 350miles + from a full tank and thats with some quite aggressive driving both motorway and urban.
