C230K V C240 Sport?

but the sound of the 230K is a bit agricultural ;)

But...the C230K always has then edge! 0-60, 0-100, top speed, even the fact that a 230K has all that lovely low-down grunt which makes it effortless to drive (you can make perfectly adequate progress letting the autobox flick through the gears at 3000rpm! :) )

My parets have a C230k, my Dad loved the engine till he test drove the W203 C320 V6 and ever since he said he is getting that next because he loved the smoothness and power. So he is no longer as keen on Kompressor units plus he tested the C200K and thought it was a bit pants. Saying that if I have the money would swap my C180 for there kompressor when they sell it if I have the money. Think the C230K is good young persons car because you can hear when your ripping the pants off it.

Interesting reading.

Is the insurance the same for both of these very nice vehicles?

Regards to you all,
John

See the difference? - after working hours are finished all the sensible, responsible adults logon to the forum and give the answer that a V6 is the best choice......all you lot who were suggesting 4cyl options during the day are obviously school kids or lazy long-haired college types who are only pretending to own Mercs...... :p

p.s. John - believe that the insurance between this lot only varies by ~1 group, so I'd imagine there is only around £50 difference for most drivers....from my own experiences, I've seldom found a massive difference between groups 13-19 - it's only when you hit group 20 that the differences can become a bit more thought provoking!!

I found that the insurance companies were more concerned that my car was a 'Sport' variant as opposed to an Elegance/Esprit/Classic, I could hear the 'kerching' sound over the phone as the bloke asked the question "what type?", he seemed much more interested in this rather than my engine size.

No wonder they dropped "sport" and added "avantgarde" :)

I was given a C230K coupe when my CLK500 was being serviced... It was a nice car with all the extras however felt really slow and made a sad pathetic sound similar to a Ford Ka... perhaps they sound better with a sports exhaust... I was surprised to be told that it had almost 200HP however I think it was a 1.8...

Now imagine that some members have been living with naturally aspirated 1.8 and 2.0 models with just over half the power of a c230k and no supercharger sound!

We're trying to compare c230k with c240 here :)

250TD v 240 v 280 v 230K

Just my two c's but i have had a C250TD, C240 and now a C280.

The 250TD was fantastic. Averaged 35mpg. Would have another or maybe a 220CDI these days.

The 240 was good also but only 28mpg. Would have one if a good, well speced example came up at some point. Otherwise not.

The 280 is a 240 with 15% more go and 26mpg but with better noise when running up through 4000rpm. Would go for another but only if doing less miles otherwise the 250TD is my choice.

Colleague has a 230K and although I have only driven it a few times I don't really notice any 'real' difference over the 280 in terms of performance. It is a bit rougher but not that noticable. Just does not sound as good IMHO. Very nice car though.

Fudger,

Purely out of curiosity (Yes I'm a nosey git :p) Why the mad smiley next to the CLK230K in your sig?

It was a manual and he's wierd :D

Should be a frown smiley not a mad smiley

The CLK230K was crap with a 5 speed manual gearbox....never again  Great with an auto box or better still with the later tip gearbox.

I don't get that. I think it's great. So much torque any gear will do really. What wasn't to like?

You can floor it and experieince the amazing pick up in any gear without the car deciding it wants to change down a cog.

Not wanting to get into a manual vs auto debate again, wrong place and I'm bored of it, but out of all engines, I think the 230K lends itself to a manual box more than others.

Dont be naughty my C180 manual box pairs up just fine. But would like to drive a C230k with manual, just love manual. :bannana:

Sh1t, did not mean to start something here.

To clarify, the manual CLK230K is the worst Merc I have had in comparison to the others. Still a nice car with a great engine but I did not like the manual gearbox.

It was very sloppy and did not feel as good a match for the car and engine. All my other mercs have been autos and I feel they are better cars as a result.

Agreed that 'crap' is far to strong a word to use :o

FINAL THOUGHT FOR THE DAY TRYING TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2030, there will be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge ections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them :D

As in to release those extra 4 horses? I'm not fussed bout performance to be honest though, just the noise when I decide to take it up the revs a bit!
I saw a guy's DIY effort on a drift car forum when searching via google, but it looked a bit mental/harmful to the engine! Was a red 230k and think he was known as Stavros or something in case anyone's seen it!?

He sold it for about £500 in the end didn't he? had ugly checkered seats right?
