Dead battery and auto gearbox failure..?
I have the same problem... I took the battery off for three weeks... Yesterday I replaced it... Started the engine... The car was on a limp mode on "D"... Not changing gears... Moved to triptonic mode... Changed the gears manually... The gears were changing as usual... 1-2-3-4-5... Stoped the engine... Started with the same problem... Not changing gears on "D"... After several trials it started to work as usual... First with no power at the beginning... For exemple on a traffic light... Later started to react normally... After half an hour of drive everything became normal... Today the problem came back...
My SLK is a European 1999 with a 2000 cc non-compressed engine (111.946) and an automatic gearbox (722.602)... The codes that the service provided me are 97, 132 and 135. I don't know if these codes are different from the UK codes... Based on the above mentioned error codes can anyone help me to diagnose the problem..?
What was the solution in your case..? What might have been the problem..? Something related to the memory of the automatic gear box..? Maybe the memory was erased because of the absence of the main battery..?
Here are the solutions... I changed the front “donut” of the propshaft... The one which just after the gearbox... No more jerking... I changed the battery (60AH/540) with a more powerful one (74AH/680)... Changed the oil and the filter of the gearbox... Believe me it has to be changed what ever the dealer or the servive manual is saying... Added also an internal magnet... Result: Like a dream...
Exactly the same problem that I had with my 2004 C200 6 months back, mine was a gear selector module replacement cost me £600 all in at the time. mine had to be recoded to the ECU by mercedes.
Since found out that Merc repairs of croydon can do the fitting and the recoding for a much cheaper fee.
