Car
1996 c250d
My 1996 c250d handling is not what it's suppose to be. The steering/handling is vaque and not very direct. The car tends to loose its line in moderate winds or when going over bumps in the road. A sort of like spongy steering feel and not direct. There are no excessive play on the steering box. It is issued with 4 new tyres (Bridgstone Turanza), shocks. Wheel alighnmnet is 100%. The dealers replaced some of the ball joints and bushes (no idea what bushes). After that the steering was much better but not what you expect from a merc. My previous 123 shape mercs had no such problems.

Any ideas. My girlfriends Polo drives much better than the Merc.

regards

Did you change all 4 shocks? Had similar probs on my C250 estate, changed all 4 shocks and steering damper, cured the prob.

No, only the front two. The back two seems to be fine although not 100%. Steering damper is also 100%. What about rubbers on the back suspension ?

Take the car into a specialist and ask them to check the suspension/joints. They will be able to tell you if its the rubber or any joints have excessive play in them.

It will take 5-10 minutes to have it looked over.
