Just a little question about emissions, MoT's and all that stuff.

The centre exhaust has been on it's way out on the C250 since the last service, and the back box isn't looking too healthy either. Given that I'll be with this thing for a good while, and I'm not averse to a bit more grunt, I'm considering a stainless performance exhaust to go onto it.

Stealth Systems have suggested a new 2.5" dia. unit from the turbo back, with AMG style twin oval exit, which should work nicely. However, they are also suggesting that the cat be removed, and this is what worries me slightly.

I'm aware the cat is not a legal requirement unlike a petrol engine, but it does go some way to reducing the smoke output. Given that the car already has it's EGR blocked, I'm worried that it's going to be a bit too much to pass the MoT.

Anybody have any experience on this one? I'm in somewhat of a dilemma...remove the cat as well, keep it with the EGR blocked, or dump the cat and unblock the EGR

I have an E300D 1996 model. The EGR is blocked and the cat removed because it was rusted through.
No probs passing the MOT and she goes much better than before.
Better on fuel too.

I have been told that the CAT is not a legal requirement on any car, the car simply has to pass the current specified emissions test as layed down by the DOT, unfortunately most cars will not do be able to this without a CAT.

get the cat off & bin it! it wont make a jot of difference to the emmissions for the mot test because they cant test the cat on a diesel on the mot
