C270 cdi
Hi newbie to forum
Seams under power I have c270 cdi 05 plate
100,00 miles bought 6 months ago
Things had done new thermostat, had trouble starting
cleaned egr valve, had it onstar no faults wdm motors checked
injectors no fault checked rail & pump needed new seals.
Changed fuel filter. Had service done still feels abit grunty.
Also at 1500 revs slight siren noise disappears higher revs
any ideas ? Please

I took it to independent he said it was ok .
But I know it's not . I had a c220 cdi before
this one .any ideas how or were I start looking ?

Hi Mark, are there any signs of oil leaking around the inlet manifold area?
If so you may have an inlet port shut off motor fault.
Hope this helps!

If you had a inlet port motor fault it would come up as a fault and car would probably go into limp mode. Hopefully dieselman or someone of our more knowledgeable members will pick up this post and point you in the right direction.

Hi Buffers, if the inlet port shut off motor is in the early stage of leaking the linkage starts to partially stick First, causing a noise because the butterfly valves are partially closed,I am not guessing as I am a fully qualified MB Diagnostic Technician,I was just getting all the information before giving an accurate diagnosis.FYI 270'S Suffer with this problem more than any other engine.(eventually if ignored the IPM will fault & go into limphome by then its too late & expensive)
Regards Mark

Thanks for your help, I will have a look around ipm
The weekend . But like I said I can only hear siren like
noise at 1500 revs then seems to disappears but I do get
a cloud of black smoke when I boot it.
cheers Mark

Hi me again car has never gone in to limp mode
Power is there just seems grunty on m6 the weekend
Hit 90 to over take she wanted to go , but my c220 cdi
Felt more responsive power there straight away not grunty
But did get black smoke when I put foot down but no noise
Cheers Mark

That sounds to me like worn inlet manifold flaps, had it on my c270cdi. There are some very good posts/threads on the site about this problem on the site, that you can look up. I did the 'remove' option which has worked out really well, much smoother and more mpg. Good luck. Just to add MercedesMark might well be right about the motor as if it is playing up then it would give you black smoke if its not operating correctly but at 100,000 miles l would think the flaps are possibly worn.

As and when I have the swirl flap problem then I too will remove mine..
I have had 2 C270 Cdi's and NEVER had any issues with the swirl flaps..
So from my point of view they dont fail on 270's !

I have done the EGR shunt about 15,000 miles ago and so hopefiully my swirl flap will remain grit / soot free.

Hi is there anyone that can help recommend some
Body good to repair this problem?
