A few weeks ago the driver door electric window stopped working. Then all of a sudden the window started working, I tested it every few days to see if I had gone mad. Since, it has stopped and started as and when it has felt like it.

A dodgy switch I thought. However, a couple of times the windscreen wiper has gone into intermittant mode without provocation. Again it does it when it feels like it and has no consistency. This has made me think perhaps there is a loom problem, or voltage regulator??

Has anyone had similar experience with the w202. Mine is a w202 '96 c36.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

not had any problems like that, weird!
have you had any work dont on the car recently, maybe something was slightly dislodged, or a wire pinched?

no, nothing like that. I have a hardly used the car for months.

Should just be a dirty fuse /holder or wire broken where it passes through the door. Only with a voltmeter and door card off will you find it

hi did you ever find the problem? i have the same problem with my w124. the wipers got stuck in intermittant mode, but then 'fixed' themselves. now my windows only seam to work every few days. today is not one of those days unflortunately as i left the windows slightly open. it is now raining a lot and lot in my car!!!

Try cleaning up the fuse contacts as Malcolm suggested above. While you're at it try reseating the relays in the box behind the main fuse box. You will have to undo a couple of screws in the fuse compartment to access this. Wiring looms problems are usually restricted to the engine wiring loom due to the extra heat.

Every time a fuse/holder or switch arcs it deposits a small amount of carbon on the contact face, once this starts the contact area gets smaller as the arcs build up, the smaller the contact area the more heat is generated in or on the contact face, the heat destroys the tension in the switch or fuse holder, and so it goes on.

With all of these cars they use flash nyckel on the contacts of fuses, do not sand them or they will get worse, but instead use a non drying contact cleaner. (maplins) This will help keep the moisture out and reduce any arcing, just lift the fuse if plug in ones and spray, if the end cap type then spray and rotate the fuse around a few times.

I haven't experienced the problem since. I dont use the car more that twice a week (normally) so it has only been a nuisance at worse.

I haven't done anything to the car yet through lack of time.
