C63 Extended Warranty/Servicing

Car
C63 AMG...
My car is now turning 3 years old and 14k miles, I do very low annual mileage and the car is slightly modded.

I am lucky to have a very good Indy local to me Mercedes Servicing and MOT Test Centre ? Norfolk | Autotechnic so I have the option for using them for servicing (actually my preferred option) and am undecided on extending the warranty. I have been quoted £988.90 + £250 excess by MB.

Does any of the above have a good or bad effect on the cars value? Not that I am really planning on selling the car in the near future, but as the C63 seems to be holding strong residuals at the moment, I wouldn’t want to jeopardise this.

So, either full MB history and Warranty. Indy History and Warranty or just Indy for servicing and any problems…

Opinions please?

Cheers
Slarty

I had the same dilemma half a year ago and decided not to go for the extended warranty and so far haven't had any issues.

I still get the car serviced by the merc dealership for the roadside assistance.

Slarty, remember fighting torque with our CSL's?

My 63 is a 2009 and I have a warranty circa 110 per month and a service plan.

So I am paying 1700 per annum including the service pack but as with my previous m cars, if the worst should happen, I'm covered.

My theory is that £110 pm isn't much of a slush fund should something go wrong on this car!

I also have an m3 and a z3m which have no warranty and that's where I gamble!

So my view is, forgetting about residuals, having a warranty is sensible and as above, keep servicing as MB with the service pack ( I priced this up against 2 Indy's in London) and two services on the service pack were comparable. You also get assist and the ability to just throw the car at Merc (amg brooklands in my case).

Also, your car will be more desirable on the private market should you need to sell.

That’s a good point, I hadn’t considered the Roadside Assistance.

I do mate, very well… I kick myself on a regular basis about selling the CSL…..

I would love to get another E46 M3 as a track car, just can’t make the numbers add up at the moment…

That was a great day and yes I also kick myself for selling the CSL also hence why I picked up a z3m coupe last year as well as an e36 m3 for track use.

Hopefully one will rise in value while I enjoy it!

I remember you both at Fighting Torque and think I still have some pics and poor video, I was in the black 335d........

Id also check what tier warrenty that price is for as I doubt thats the best tier as mine was £1300

Also note you get merc roadside assistance even if you get your car MOT at merc

Verbal quote over the phone, both tier 1:
£1306.80 no excess
£988.90 with £250 excess

I do less than 5k a year so was considering the lower option...

I have just shocked myself, I never have it on the millage screen!
Current millage 13,230!!!
I have only done 1,743 miles since last April!

With regard to servicing, mine was recently serviced and air filters needed, I told them that I was going to use my own long life air filters(K&N) and the service advisor said are they approved MB filters because if they are non standard parts then I would loose their Mobilio service!! Needless to say I told them to stick OEM filters in. Like you Slarty mine is 4years old and 16k but I've elected to extend MB warranty

Mine has BMC filters, I may just take them out before the service and stick the paper ones back in.

Seems to be Mercedes for servicing then. That really surprises me, I have always found the specialist better than the main dealer and that has nothing to do with cost…

Still undecided about the warranty, have a few more days to decide yet.

I have BMC filters and I told them when I booked my car in for servicing and they just said I can opt to not get the air filters changed. Didn't say anything more than that.
Regardless, I wouldn't get the dealer to change it. Couldn't believe how much they charge for something that's so simple that even I can do it.

I decided to go with the warranty in the end, plus book in for a service with MB at the end of March… Just need to stick a few miles on her now to make the most of it…

My view is that an Indy will almost always give you better service.

Said that... an MB Care Plan for services 4 (B) and 5 (A) is likely to work out cheaper... if the air filter, spark plugs, and ATF fall into these services.
