The inner of my front right tyre is wearing unevenly and causing some rumbling noises. I've done about 7k miles on them, have about 3mm left (on the outside) and they are 19" Conti 5P MO tyres.

I've seen loads of threads on this and recommendations for 4 wheel alignment adding bolts and adjusting the geometry for UK roads etc. Now, I don't like to modify my car. So, the question is - is this type of wear 'OK' for a c63? I took it into my local Merc dealer and they said it's fine and could be down to the type of driving I do in London - I believe that because I always reverse out of my drive down an incline and full lock to the left. Previously I used to get a knocking noise in cold weather. Maybe that daily reverse is enough to cause uneven wear?

Anyway, I have 4 new PSS in the garage and intend to fit them without any change other than to start parking outside the house on the street and see what happens over next few thousand miles.

Seem reasonable? By the way, my local MB dealer told me they outsource the tracking so I really don't want it played around with. The next nearest dealer wanted £345 to do it, without seeing the car.

You got to be kidding £345, they must think you're made of money, long walk of a short peer is my recommendation for them. The wear doesn't sound right, but what does alignment report say, suggest you take a drive to see Wheels In Motion - team there will get it right and it won't be £345! I don't have what you describe, you're putting nice new rubber on, spend the £100 on alignment is my advice.

I'm sure someone smarter will be along soon.

WIM weren't much cheaper, I'd rather pay MB a little more, stay local and keep the car 'standard' warts and all.

Car went in for a service this week, and again MB think it's ok whereas the local tyre fitter thinks it is terrible.

If I went for a cheap alignment (£100), I'm concerned I'll end up with all sorts of annoying issues like misaligned steering wheel.

Confusing.

I had wear on my inner edges of my front tyres, when mine went in for a B service, they quoted me £106 for a wheel alignment at Arnold Clark MB in Inverness. I had the tyres changed elsewhere and went back to MB for the alignment as no one else near me would touch Mercs (I've since found out a local body shop would have done it for nothing).

When I went back to have the tracking checked, it was all in tolerance but they did recommend having the front camber bolts replaced with bolts with flat faces on them to bring the toes in 1/4" or so, then for me to keep an eye on the tyre wear to ensure they don't wear too much on the outer edge.

The total cost for this was £130.

I had wear on my inner edges of my front tyres, ....

... then for me to keep an eye on the tyre wear to ensure they don't wear too much on the outer edge.

See that's what I want to avoid; fix one thing and potentially end up with another. I'd rather live with the inner wear so long as is it 'OK'.

Appreciate your reply, thanks. Might ask my local MB dealer who they outsource it to and get some feedback from them on the wear.
