C63 Rear Tyres - What would you do?

OK so I know that with 487bhp and a sense of early morning hooligan in the driver rear tyres are not going to last long.

But this is not about the replacement every whatever miles - guess I am actually asking for opinions.

I have Continental Sport Contact 3 on the car, which i bought used in February knowing that tyres were not going to last too long, and the MOT last month had an advisory on the rears being 'close to 1.6mm' and the fronts wearing on the inner shoulder (but a fait bit of tread left)

So i though no worries - just buy a pair of rears and have a full alignment.

But ... I am having difficulty locating Sport Contact 3's in the size (255/30x19 or prefereably 265/30x19) from anywhere. All i can seem to find are Sport Contact 5's...

So I am not a great fan of the Sport Contacts anyway as I find them a little noisy and they dont have a lot of dry grip (according to that orange light that keeps coming on ;) ) and would like , say, P Zero or Pilot Sports.
But since the fronts dont need replacing yet how can I move to the new Manufacturer ? I am a bit careful about tyres on a peformance car and in my opinion mixed manufacturers front vs. rear are not a good idea.

But - would YOU mix sport contact 3 with sport contact 5 ?
And - if you have a C63 what do you think of Sport Contact 3's ? Better alternatives

Or should I try and eke out as many miles as possible with what i have and THEN replace all 4 ??

Opinions ?

Wouldn't worry me in the slightest as long as they're matched across the axle.

My next set for the rear will probably be a different make to the fronts as I've just put a brand new pair of PZeros on there due to a puncture, but will go with Vredesteins on the rear as I like their tyres, ultimately replacing the fronts with the same.

I personally never let mine go down to less than 3mm, especially on a performance car, as these black things are all that's between you and the rear end coming to say hello to you.

Yokos on the front and just waiting for pilot super sports to be delivered for the rear. Once the front have worn down then I will go for pilots all round.

I have conti 5's on the front and PSS on the rear. No problems at all.

I have recently fitted PSS on the rear and running the original Conti SC3s on the front. No issues.

Appears to be lots more grip on the rear now and won't break traction in 2nd gear anymore. Can't wait to get PSS on the front.

Thanks All!

Good to know that 1. others are mixing front/rear and that 2. scotty is getting more grip from the PSS !! I can get them fitted for about £390 @ ATS as they have 15% off on Michelin/Pirelli for 2 tyres (and 25% off Pirelli for 4 if anyone interested)

Reckon I am going to have alignment done soon as and then look at PSS for the rear.
Reckon that the fronts should then need replacing when the next set of rears do..

I went through a set of conti's in 7000 miles. I replaced them with PSS all round and the car feels much better. Road noise is reduced, grip in the wet is excellent plus I've covered an additional 3k miles and they haven't worn anywhere near as badly as the conti's :thumb:

Blimey that sounds a lot like a recommendation. Better grip usually comes at the price of increased wear, not the other way round.

I just renewed my rear Conti 5ps (MO spec which is the Merc oem), pretty much sold on contis as had them on my m3 previously and think grip is pretty good and that is tested on track days in m3 and c63, so I stick with them. I can light up the rears with them on the c63 though but I thought that was just down to the torque.

I personally would not have different tyres front and rear, not saying its wrong, just adding some additional thoughts to the thread.

Recommendation ??

Hi Colin, I had the same issue when I had my 63 and went through a lot of different tyres, but the guys on here helped with recommendations and my pal Palmball was very helpful. I ended up with a combo front and back that being the conti 5's on the rear and PSS's on the front and it transformed the car. Huge grip when breaking and long life on the rears which if you are tracking the car at all is a good thing. I found this combo worked very well and made me feel more confident with the car. Prior to that I had Yokohama's all round, twice and they didnt last 5 minutes, plus they have to be very hot to work properly. Would not recommend those at all. If you can wait I woul have PSS's all round but do understand as they are quite expensive but imho the best money can buy and last the longest.

Front and rear different no problem in my experience, only across the same axle

Went up to 265 30 19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport on rear and they transformed my C63 - no more dire lack of rear end Grip - also went up to 245 on the front and no more understeer in the wet - makes a HUGE difference!!! Also got 2 for £360 from F1 plus £50 cash back - happy days!

I have Pss front and rear, 245 and 275, great tires and good wear even with my
" Spirited " driving : )

I have Yoko's on my car, been on there since I bought them have lasted a year no problem. Albeit I've only done 4,000 miles.

May move to PSS's when I do need to change the rears, seem to be some good reviews on here.

Try Wembley Tyres or Wheels in Motion..... I source tyres from Wembley and balance and track at wheels in motion. I would just get Michelin PSS all round as it costs under £580

For 18s are the Michelin PS3 any better than Conti SPC 5P? Michelin PSS aren't made in 18...

Seems to be a lot of people pointing to the PSS so I may give these a try as my tears are shot.Conti 5s on the front are like new still .
Quick question...I see a few people mentioning 265s and 275s....presuming they have the OEM multi spoke 19s etc is it possible to put a wider say 265 tyre on an alloy designed for 255s or am I am simply uneducated
