Got my C63 booked in at a local garage for the following,

Front and rear brake pads inc pins front and rear

2 new rear OE Dampers due to oil leak on one

Front inner tie rods and track rod ends on both sides

He's quoted me £240 labour to fit the lot, does this sound fair or should I get some quotes?

It seams to be reasonable, I wouldn't personally bother in asking around.
I take this is local garage that you trust.

I assume you will have to add final tracking to that figure? Fitting the pads and rear shocks should be pretty easy to predict workshop time wise . The front suspension + steering components not quite so easy to cost as its more dependent on the state of existing components. On a relatively new car shouldn't be too much of a problem. Is it a fixed quote or an estimate?

It's someone I know and trust, I'm paranoid who I leave my car with. It's not set in stone the price but I'm fairly sure he'll stick to it. Cars fairly new so existing components shouldn't be too seized hopefully.

Anything else I should consider replacing whilst I'm at it?

I'll get alignment done after parts are fitted. Merc charge around £100

How long should I leave the dampers etc to settle before I get it realigned?

Ask him to have a look at the handbrake shoes because the shackles normally seize.

Will do. Any winter prep I can do underneath whilst it's on the ramp?

£240 is a daily rate for local garages (I'm in Northampton). The work you've been quoted will take less than half a day with any experienced mechanic. Shop around!

£240 is more than I wanted to pay but it's booked in now. Personally I thought around £200 is fair.

On a side note, how long will the dampers take to settle before I can book in alignment? According to Mercedes service manager I should Leave it around 1000 miles?

I'd just take it around the block. Should be enough for suspension to settle. Drive it for a few days if you want although you don't have to.

When you buy a new car they don't drive it before setting the alignment etc.

True but I'm assuming it comes set up from factory.

I'll get it booked in ASAP once dampers are fitted.

Think 1000 miles takes the piss tbh.

Just don't want a half assed job from merc then they blame it on new dampers etc...

Hello

Are there any differences in the suspension set up on pre and post face lift cars? I have not driven many c63 s but the face lift cars feel a bit smoother to me.

Thanks

From memory it was slightly more than that. I recall seeing a press release at the time.

Really... £240 over 9 hours is £27 an hour, I don't know any garages that cheap!

Some people think that mechanics work for free ...

that is a fair price only around 50-60 an hour for a business with overheads
i work on around 40.00 an hour as a sole trader with small overheads

Bull.

Maybe some 'select' garages in Wellingborough or a back street in Duston.

£240 is more than reasonable

Personally I'd say £240 is reasonable to cheap.
