Hi all,

As the tittle says - the car pulls to the left quite a bit when I let go of the steering wheel.

If spoke to the dealer and they had it taken in under warranty and they too agreed that it pulls allot more then usually expected.

So they did a wheel alignment and changed a few parts (which they never did tell me what parts they were???)

After having picked the car up it still seems to be pulling to the left. And is now becoming a strain when driving.

Has anyone else had similar issues / symptoms / problems?

I was advised by One of the dealerships that it's a... Wait for it... " safety issue" invade I ever fall asleep at the wheel I don't steer onto on coming traffic?

Not sure what to make of that??

Again many thanks in advance for having a read and for any comments.

So what about when I take the car to Europe and the car's headlights switch beam pattern to the other side but then if I fall asleep the car then takes out a family coming in the other direction?

Doesn't hold any water. It's not a safety feature at all. It's a fault.

That's what I thought - the car is booked in again next week and they'll have another look at it.

The dealership I am dealing with have been nothing but helpful - it's the other dealership I rang at the time that gave me the safety explanation or rather excuse !

Hi

I had a 2010 C250CGI estate sport, for 3 years, prior to changing to my S205 in June.

When I first test drove it, I didn't notice any untoward left hand pulling but complained about the mixture of tyre makes on each axle. They agreed to switch wheels and tyres (which were the same AMG ones, fitted with Avons) from a similar car on sale.

I then noticed when I picked the car up that it pulled to the left so got it booked-in to check. Their 4 wheel alignment showed only minor adjustments needed and though slightly better, still had some pull.

I complained to the sales team, one of which drove the car with us in it and proceeded to "demonstrate" how when driven in the middle of the road, the car drove straight! He even drove on the right hand side of the road (nothing coming but hairy, nevertheless) to show it followed the right hand camber!! He concluded that there was nothing wrong with the car - end of!.

Fast forward a few months and I got the remnents of a stanley blade in the nearside rear, the day before a weekend away. No local tyre fitters had any Avons so went for a deal on 2 new Contis. Another 2 months and I got a deal on 2 more contis for the fronts at another tyre place and a session on their Hunter system.

Again, it wasn't too far out but the guy did say that the Avon's being unidirectional can, on some cars, lead to more of a tendency to follow the camber. Anyhow, it did improve the situation enough that I put up with the very slight pull.

The S205, in contrast (fitted with Bridgestone Potenza run flats) runs straight - got there in the end.

My does drifts slowly to the left is well. Paul from eurocharge told me that they all do it

Just need a good alignment with adjustable camber bolts.

Mercedes main dealers would not have adjust the camber bolts as they don't have the skillset and they don't tend to admit that they understand.

Depends on where you are located, try Wheels In Motion. They will be able to sort out the alignment with adjustable camber bolts.

Some W204s are affected more than others.

Hi Sirius,

Thank you very much I'll definitely will mention it to them!

I'm based near Ascot and have taken my car to Ascot too. As already mentioned they have really looked after me.

So hopefully they'll do what they need to otherwise will try the place you recommended.

Also have a friend at Kwik Fit so might take it there.

My car drifts to the left, and upon reading and being a member of this forum over a long period of time thought this was a normal thing?

Mine drifts slowly. It's a characteristic and is obviously more noticeable on more cambered roads.

Lol ... I too was a bit sceptical at first with Kwik fit but when I heard that my friend who was a master tech at Audi and left to work for Kwik fit as a mobile tech I was more than happy to take my RS6 to him but only him.

Wouldn't trust anyone else.

However will try wheels in motion too if Mercedes don't fix it this time round.

I guess it all depends on anyone's machine if it has been calibrated properly.

When I first had my W218 it felt like it drifted to the left. Spent 5 hours at BMTR Birmingham having 4wheel alignment, 2 new front tyres and forced balancing and it still feels like it. I'm used to it now.

Wheels in motion are the only guys that can fix your steering problem I have used them to correct the steering on the last two Mercedes I have owned even my current amg has been done by them.

You can search old threads, but WIM are very good, no one else does my cars, I make the trip even though it is a bit of a trek and they take good car of my cars. Get them to do it and send MB invoice to recover your money, they will pay.

Will Defo do that if they can't sort it this time round

Literally just had my tracking done as my c class was pulling slightly to the left,it was out quite a bit,but it still favours to the left when you let go of the steering wheel.

Most roads in the UK have a slight camber away from the centre to help water drain away. This will cause the steering to edge to the left when let go.
