Guys, has anyone had any experience in servicing the brake calipers.

I have a problem with the CL500 whereby whenever I press the brakes I get a crunching sound from both sides.

I have had the discs and pads replaced only a few months back so know its not due to worn down pads.

My gut feeling is that the caliper pistons seals may have perished and dried the pistons out.

Just need some advice on how to ascertain exactly what the problem may be, any brake cleaner/lubricant you can recommend if I find dirt/grit on the caliper etc

Incidently I have been on the russian epc and MB parts and they list a caliper repair kit ( not sure what the contents of this are though ) and what the fitting procedure may involve ??

Any advice appreciated ....as always...

Cheers !!

Does it make any noise if you press the brakes when stationary if not it has to be the rotating parts, i.e. disk pads.
If the caliper seals go they usually leak fluid.

Only makes cruching sound whilst stationary - each time I press the brakes I can hear it go crruunnnch !! and when I then let go ...crunch again !!

This happened on my Coupe the other week after fitting new rear pads. I got the vibration spring in the wrong way round :o , thats the one that the pins hold in.

IIRC the "caliper repair kit" is a brand new caliper. Never having ordered it I can't confirm...

The part no for the kit is : 0004219486.

Ian - I will check the springs etc by taking the wheels off today - I guess it was fitted inside out then ?

for what its worth, my mercedes dealer said the caliper repair kits were of dubious quality......
