Would anyone mind taking a photo of their dipstick please first thing in the morning? Just to see what the level shows?

Mines all black and well above the max mark. But at normal temp i measure 15-20 mins after stopping and its half way between min and max.

Same here, why is that? I nearly fell over when I saw nearly hald the dipstick covered in oil but when warm and after say an hour, its right on max?

Ok just checked mine for you - about 4/5 of the way between min and max (cold).

Mines bone dry, hot or cold, is that OK? ;)

My car is parked on a slope so I don't bother!!

u want a photo of my dipstick??

i had no idea you were like that mobeyone, and even though i'm not like that, i feel strangely flattered!
:D

seriously though... got to be flat... have been warmed properly (at least 20 mins drive) parked for 5 mins to let the oil collect... and then measured...
... but i'm sure you already know that.

Yes) reason I am asking is this, when warm the level is right but when left overnight it pushes up as below?

Car is normal, no Blackpool illuminations on the dash and coolant etc all fine.

you're good then mate... as long as warmed through, left for a few minutes, and then dipstick reads fine... :thumb:

That's a lot of redness on your dipstick mobeyone.

I'd see your doctor.

:D

Similar to you Mobeyone.

When checked fully cold it reads well above Full mark.

When checked 5-10 minutes after shutdown it registers 3/4 full.

Hi, just joined the forum drive a strait 6 S320cdi 2002. Interesting to see how you are measuring engine oil levels. Absolute oil levels are usually always checked after several hours so that all the oil has drained back into the sump, giving an accurate measurement of oil in the system.
Regards,
Pete.

I park on quite a slope, so its pointless checking my oil level at home. Have to wait for a suitable opportunity when out and having parked up for a few hours - not very convenient.
This is real backward step in engine evolution from my in Line W211 320cdi engine with its electronic measuring, however pleased to lose the in-radiator ATF cooling system.

AFAIK, MB say-

Check oil when HOT (at least a 20 minuite run) ... then wait 5 minutes. On the dipstick- the oil should be between 75- 80% full.
