I've got a WB210 (E class 220CDI Estate, Silver, black leather, auto).

Its got ful MBSH up to 115,000 and its now on 128,000 so due a service in a few thousand. My question is do the cam chains ever need replacing and if so when?

I've had a number of Audi's (A4 Avant and TT) so have been used to getting their cam belts changed every 80K then 60K thereafter.

Many thanks

If the oil has been changed frequently and there are no rattles you might leave it ,or you could pop the cover off and have a look to see what the chain is like and then make a decision .if in doubt replace .

And while doing what hosejockey says after 150k miles take a look at the chain sprockets, if the teeth are sharp, they should be replaced to stop the chain from jumping a tooth.
