The camshaft lobes on the 450 are a bit pitted and I thought that perhaps they could be re-surfaced. The replacement MB parts are excruciatingly expensive so looking for a more cost effective alternative. Anyone know of or can recommend, preferably in the Midlands, someone capable of doing this?

Any engine rebuilder should be able to regrind the cams.

How bad are they? It's not uncommon for them to look worn on 116/117 engines

Some time ago a head gasket leaked and rather than deal with it I left the 450 garaged over winter. Unfortunately there was some emulsified oil in the cam covers which got onto the cam lobes and caused some spot rusting. As I have had the heads skimmed and taken the same amount off the valve seats, as MB recommends, I thought I could compensate for the increased valve height, I have a problem with the tappet adjusters, and sort the cams out at the same time.
