Can I have your views please ?

Nice looking car although the drivers seat looks a little sad on the springs. As for milage I personally wouldnt worry. (see siggy pic)

Hi,
800K pah just starting :D a Greek man has just donated his cab to Mercedes with 2.8 million miles on it
I think that this is a hard call :( while I agree that milage should not be of issue on a Merc the Im not sure that the newer mercs are as sturdy as the W124. (I drove my friends 10 year old with 201K on clock and it was very smooth  but I have been in more resent E classes that where just rough)

I would be tempted to give the car a miss in favour of one that you can drive and inspect before you agree to buy it.

Good luck :)

Peter

A high miler indeed. Seems in good condition but there is one thing which would make me hesitate.

It has a towbar. It has done a lot of miles. So has it been doing over 35k miles per annum towing something on a regular basis?

Towing something substantial over long distances and not changing the transmission fluid on a regular basis (forget the "sealed for life" rubbish) is not good.

And how do you clock up that many motorway miles and not get stone chips?

I did notice the towbar and didn't mind as I plan to tow my caravan with it. Considering it has twin socket, previous owner(s) must also have towed a caravan. Difficult to establish whether it has caused any damage though.

Rear suspension will have taken some punishment too probably.

Don't tailgate! Since when do you see someone towing a caravan at the BACK of a queue? ;)

I believe the E Class estate has rear self levelling suspension. Is that correct ??

Shude, ain't gonna be at the end of the queue with such a towcar.. :D :D

I generally don't go for the ads which use more than one exclaimation mark!!!

- bargain!!!
- very very impressive !!
- this means there is hardly any wear to the car !!
- BE QUICK FIRST COME FIRST SERVED !!
- I can end the auction and sell the car at anytime !!
- HAPPY BIDDING !!

I just dislike the tone in general. (but that's just me)

Check for rust in the upper and lower door sills (pull back the rubbers), and around the wheel arches and boot.

Yes, multiple exclaimation marks are generally held to be a bad omen. As is an "MB specialist dealer" who sells "as seen with absolutely no warranty"?

Sounds like a low rent or commission sale outfit, so you might as well go to an auction.

...LAST SERVICED at 161k miles - now 183k miles - so it's overdue another service. Also, the last last service was non MB - which need not be offputting provided you know where it was serviced - and can verify this - and verify what was done (invoice). So they've given it 12 months MOT but don't want it serviced before sale - even though it's overdue? I bet they can't be bothered because they know there'll be extra stuff to do and they don't want to pay for it.
MOT's and general tarting up cost bugger all.
Oh and there's far too much BS in the ad - short and to the point is how I like them.
My verdict - avoid.
Les

Quote from the ad:

"PX is welcomed for your ease and convenience. I will accept your car unseen and work on the basis of trust. I use the "CAP Black book" trade value for the valuation of your car. If you are expecting more then I politely ask you to sell your car privately."
"... if you want to buy the car then please do your research and email me with a serious offer, no silly offers as they do offend".

Having done my research, and considering he himself uses CAP, may be I ought to offer CAP guide price, ie £7275 clean... :D :D :D

I think I'm gonna pass on that one. There will be others. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I wouldn't be put off by the trader - he seems fairly gen. He obviously has a deal with an MB main dealer to take their PX off their hands.

How many here have PXd with an MB main dealer, quite a few!?! If it was high mileage or old they wouldn't ount it themselves so aguy like this gets it. You could always contact some of his previous buyers too - see how they got on.

Bet my 211 E class won't get to 180,000 miles!

My friend has bought 2 cars from him (1993 E280 & 1999 E320) and both were okay.

Yes he does look quite good, but if a car is over the service interval and they wont entertain doing the work but want to get better than poor money for the car they are either smoking crack, or take you for an idiot

Im sure that when the car came in over its service interval they used it to screw the owner down to a givaway price.

The one thing that I really did not understand when I bought my Merc was the abundance of cars on the market all year round. I had had the experience I have now I would have taken much more time. As it is I love my car and it was in good condition, and I screwed the dealer out about 5K off the asking price to cover unknowns in the cars history, but I could have found an A1 car if I had stretched the process out for a few months

This car (and the others he is selling) all went through PUBLIC Auctions from MBFinance (I can't check what price he paid...).

High milers are common enough. MB sell over 100 a week at Chelmsford (every Monday I think?) and there are other around the country.

If you want a high miler (and I have bought them at the same auctions - always very happy!) the Contact BCA or Chelmsford Auctions for details.

Car dealers eh?!!!

might seem like a dumb question but how did you find that out? :)
