Anyone know how to open a rear door on a w201. I cant open it from the outside or inside ( Inside because the child safety lock is on).The door is obviously unlocked. Outside you can pull the door handle , but it wont release!

My next thought was to remove the inside door trim to get to the lock mechanism. Can this be done with the door closed from the inside?

Thank you

I know this may sound a bit silly but it may be frozen to the seal. try pouring some like warm water around the perimeter before you start dismantling the door! :)

This only started yesterday with the cold weather, but I could not open it with all my force, so thought it cant be an ice seal. I will follow your advice tonight-Thats if I get home with all the snow!!This is a new driving experience to me as I am from South Africa where we do not have any of these extreme weather problems!

Just a thought, if you do end up having to take the panel off the door you may need to remove the rear seats to gain access...

My guess is that the you have broken the attachment of the locking rod at one end.

the link below is not quite the same door but the principles are roughly the same. e.g to remove the door handle cover you may have to slide it sideways rather than unclip it this should give access to the end of the locking rod.If the handle assembly is broken you may be able to operate the rod with a pliers if not you will have to remove the whole door panel.

I would pour some warm water around first.. i bet the seal are iced up... I have broken a handle before in weather like this..

Try pushing the doorinwards, in the area of the lock then pull on the handle, this may relieve the tension on the door latch allowing the handle to “catch”, this worked on a different car with the same problem, might work for you .
