Car park bumper scrape.

Looks like it would mop out to me.....at least to an acceptable standard. Id certainly be trying that before I agree to an expensive repair, £450 is silly for the damage....especially when a smart repair (if needed after mopping) would be so much cheaper. I failed to spot a bolt head sticking out of a car park wall and took a 100mm, 1mm deep gouge out of my 528i bumper. Smart repair guy did it at my work. great repair and still invisible when I sold the car....pale silver blue metallic too...so not an easy match.

EDIT....typing at same time!....so it will need a smart repair if its to the primer.

i just had something very similar dealt with on my SL, previous owner had misjudged.

done in proper body shop, plus a small scratch by door handle.

£325 inc VAT.

I can’t see how that would be £450 for a private job even in a very expensive body shop. To do that I believe it would require either:

1. Abusing the insurance company by doubling the price or more.

2. Abusing you by adding in other bits and pieces whilst it’s in.

Apologies if I've missed it, but what kind of car is damaged? Model / year ?

That's what actually defines whether its polish and a pen for £20, a smart repair for £150, or a bodyshop for £300+

It's not in his interest to go through insurance.

That's what happened when I scuffed some woman's car at least ten years ago. When she sent me the quote for the repair, it included the scraped door mirror on the other side of the car...

Couple of months after we purchased our car, my wife unfortunately scraped the front of our C238 on the wall whilst reversing off our driveway (see pic below).

Cost £180 to get it sorted at a small local bodyshop repair place.

Took it in the morning and collected at the end of the day. They did a brilliant job and it looks good as new.

A while back my wife had a ceramic plant pot fall off the wall (frost damage) and lodge between the wall and the rear wing of her W169....big chunk of paint missing and tennis ball sized dent. My wife booked it a a local "Chips away" type place run by some Polish boys. I went with her to give a lift back....to be honest I was not holding out much hope looking at the place. But they did an amazing job....they even Whatapped me a pic of the repaired dent with no paint on just to prove they hade removed the dent properly and not just filled it!!! The paint was a perfect match for her ten year old metallic champagne and a few years later it still looks a perfect. All I had to do was order and replace the lower wheel arch clear polythene chip guard as they had to remove it for painting and blending. Great service....£185 at the time!....had to be cash mind...LOL!

Had a guy in a Kia try to park next to me and he scraped my bumper last week it got sorted between us and was done Thursday looks perfect cost £250 which he paid directly, his was a bit of a mess thoughIMG20220503145622.jpgIMG20220503145632.jpg

All done now, a proper bumper off the car job that looks like new. Matey was so pleased with the work he brought his missuses car in for a minor repair estimate (another car park scrape but this time a hit & run) the same day he collected his repaired car.

Haggled it down to £300 out the door, so not the end of the world.

If all parties can walk away with no regrets then that’s about as good as you can hope for in such circumstances. Sounds like a better than expected outcome all round.

I gave my wife's SLK a proper clean and polish last month, ready to take it round dealers to trade in for it's replacement. We went to a garden centre and I parked as far away as possible from the entrance and other cars. Needless to say someone parked right next to us (with no other cars anywhere near, so it's even more annoying). It was raining when we came back to the car and we were busy saying goodbye to my aunt, so we jumped in and drove off.

When I got home I spotted this:

It looked like someone had dragged a painted flower pot or something past it because it had kind of chalky paint on the surface. Annoyingly it did go down to the primer in a small section, but I wet sanded it as best I could:

Then DA polished it and put some glaze on it to help fill the slight remaining marks:

It's surprising what you can polish out, though it helps if it's in a lower place and not somewhere more at eye level. Still blooming annoying though. :(

I was just trying not to swear; but I'll take the pun. :)

We've taken to using our son's 10 year old Fiesta if we need to drive to the shops for heavier stuff rather than take our main car or just walk if it's only a few items. Doesn't matter how far from the door you park someone always seems to want to park right next to us, even if there are loads of other spaces. It's weird, almost like our car is a magnet. :(

In 17 years of company cars, plus our own private cars and probably 250,000 miles or more of driving I reckon I could count the self inflicted damage on all those cars on one hand. All the other damage has been from car parks, people walking into our car outside the house(!) and the neighbour's kids kicking a football at one car just after I'd machine polished it all. I even had a car scratched while it was being serviced at a main dealer (which they denied of course).

Now I really am trying not to swear!

I got my 1st new to me car in 2018.

Within 6 months it had a shopping trolley / car door dent on every door. You couldn't even dream it up. Was right on a body line too and looked awful

Some lovely individual left the other halfs mini with this nice bruise this morning.

Got most of it out however paint is cracked. If you didn't know it was there you wouldn't see it.

Annoying
