Has anyone got knowledge of how much it costs to transport a 1500kg car from SE France to the Midlands?

Also does anyone have any contacts for transporting parts from France to the UK?

could you get brakedown cover and ask for it to be towed home?????

I have a mate that does this out of Scotland £1 per mile plus expenses (Ferry crossings, hotel, meals etc) used to be the going rate. But remember it's double the mileage the car has to come as to the driver its a return journey.

What parts do you want bringing back, where from and when as I come back through France every other month, my next planned trip October. So if they will go in the Volvo and its close to my route I could get them for you.

I've seen prices on ebay for ~£1 per mile, which at 700+ miles each way + ferry is a killer.

One option is to buy a transporter, use it then sell it. Allowing £400 for costs including insurance, it makes sense as I would go on a parts buying fest.

Wheels in particular. Seen some in N/E France, Paris and further South.

The car is more of an issue.

Can you rent a trailer and collect it yourself ?

A colleague's car recently broke down in France. Even with breakdown cover he wont get the car home for several weeks. Supposedly there's a fleet of car transporters that travel Europe collecting broken cars and returning them to the UK. All I'm really saying is, if you can discover who this transportation company is then you may be able to piggyback on one of those trucks, for less money than a dedicated truck.

Would be overweight.
Car 1580kg, trailer 500kg, max tow limit 1900kg.

I suppose I could buy a 320Cdi and trailer use them then sell them.

I'm presuming the car is not driveable :dk: Can you not borrow a trailer or transporter, someone on here must have one. If not the easiest way without losing any money would be to buy a Brian James Trailer on ebay and then sell it when you have done with it. When we had ours I dragged a Jeep Grand Cherokee back from Torquay with our Disco V8 you didn't even know you had it on the back. Went all over europe with that set up and the race car much easier than the Iveco transporter we used to have.

Rent a car, 4x4 or pick up that is geared up for towing all the major companies have them thats what I do when I pick up the big trailer with all our test rigs in. Budget usually work out the cheapest

I have a Brenderup tilt-bed trailer that will take a W124 Estate. It's a useful thing but I don't use it much. Give me a shout of it's of interest
