Hi

What products are good for cleaning the carpets, I have a cream coloured interior and its condition is letting the car down. So guna tackle the seats and carpets this weekend.

TIA

Regards

I just took them all out and attacked them all with a domestic carpet cleaner solution and a scrubbing brush. rinsed them through with a hose and then hung them in the sun to dry.

Came out like new but was a full weekends work.

I went to a self-valet place and used what was basically a scaled-down domestic carpet cleaner. It sprays cleaner fluid into the carpet and then sucks it out again. This worked very well, and I used it on the seats too.

If you have or can hire a Vax machine or similar carpet cleaner that works well. If not, wetting with a cleaning solution and then sucking it out with a Wet/dry vacuum cleaner is nearly as good.

For really bad problems, hang up on a fence, tree or whatever and attack with a hose. Use something like Vanish carpet cleaning foam, scrub a bit and then blast again with hose. Stubborn stains may require further treatment.

This is of course a warm bank holiday weekend with plenty of drying time exercise. You need to be sure that the carpets are not going to do something really unhelpful like shrink!

I did not care when I last did this on my Vauxhall Dogmobile as any outcome had to be better on the heavily soiled 100% synthetic tat passed off as carpet, but those with wool based carpets had better seek professional advice first.

Few options I have seen in the past......

Ever used that stuff called no-wet wonderfoam? actually good on carpets!

For heavy dirt, hang em up and black with a jew wash

works every time - or also a steam cleaner weakens the dirt.

nope I've not tried this!!

hi

cleaned my interiror fully yesterday - used household carpet cleaner & stain remover on the carpets and they have come up looking nice and fresh again.

my interiror is Orion Grey which means dirt shows up really easily, and i dont think the previous owner took too much time cleaning the car - nor did the so called "vallet" my car got when i bought it from a Mitsubishi dealer - it looked like they simply hoovered it out - left a huge amount of dirt in the carpet trim etc; not too concerned as i like to tackle these issues myself to get it how i want it.

All the dirt scuffs and marks are now gone with the only dirty area still remaining is around by the pedals. But even this area is 100% cleaner and better than it was before. Due to the area it is with muddy shoes constantly coming in contact with this area I think i have got it as clean as its going to get, but will repeat the process when i polish the car soon.

Another good bit of trim to clean was the material around the edges of the door frame - got the dirt out of this too.

to clean the floor mats i removed them from the car and put them in the washing machine - came out looking like new. although u do have to be careful that this doesnt damage the edging of the mats.

if anyone is interested in before and after pics - i should be able to provide some.

I used Autoglym Interior cleaner with excellent results on cream carpet - scrubbed lightly (so as not to damage carpet pile) with nail brush and left to dry.

Carpet Cleaning Service

I use the Halfords own brand carpet cleaner on my beige carpets as needed. I use a large sponge, and it comes up fine first time, even when filthy (like in the estate back after trips to the tip).

Vanish foam in the pink bottle fantastic stuff, got grease and cigarette stains out of disco roof lining.

I know someone who took their carpets out their w124 to wash them, tried to put them back in and they had shrunk!

When i do mine this weekend i think ill be leaving them in the car :D

Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner does the job and with it's dilution ratio a gallon will last you ages although once you use it you'll find yourself finding other things to clean with it coz it's that good.

Vanish is very good and if you have a vax to suck it out thats even beta.

Yep we use vanish, a George Wet n Dry machine and occasionally a Karcher steam cleaner for the more stubborn marks.

But be careful on leather as if yuo go too far you can strip the dye..
