Hi, today after short trip from central London (19 miles) my right front disk got delaminated or jus got damaged 😡
Car with 30,102 miles on the clock, never used acid to wash the wheels.
Went straight to my local MB Service at Heathrow, spoke with Matt (technician) nice to talk with someone who got so much knowledge, thanks!
Will leave the car on Friday for inspection.
Hope this will be replaced under a manufacturing issue.

I would be surprised if MB would replace free of charge a wear and tear item that has been used for over 30k miles and 4 years.

Their warranty specifically excludes friction materials.

Looking at the light cracking across the surface of the disc, they would be due for replacement soon anyway.
Stand by for open wallet surgery for a pair of front ceramic discs.

Greetings all,
Yesterday morning got a call from Mercedes Benz Heathrow, they have full set ready to install on my S63, under manufacturer warranty 🤩

Went today to take a look, as I did not believe Mercedes Technical Department would do this after 10 months of waiting 🥺

Part number A2224211400 / A 222 421 14 00

Just want to say thank you Mercedes, the best or nothing 🥳

Well OP , you must have a very good relationship with that dealer for them to replace FOC a wear item after 30K miles , especially brakes.

Well done :thumb:

Presumably, it's taken 10-months, virtually to the day, to source new discs on a relatively new MB? Is that correct?

The cracking effect is normal on ceramics

well done OP on getting them replaced under warranty.

Excellent ! What would they cost ?

Generally they are not a fast-selling item. The normal lifespan of carbon ceramic brake discs is well in excess of 100,000 miles. Couple that with the current back-order issues with Mercedes parts… Have you tried to buy a NOx sensor lately? They are starting to come through now, but they have been as bad as eight months wait.

I appreciate that, though I'm aware of a significant number of people replacing carbon ceramics / at quite low mileages (several Astons) but, IMHO, muchof the early repkacement is down to use/maintenance/bedding-in

Wear can be heavy if the cars are used for track work or similar. I saw a set on a Bentley ruined at Goodwood when the car came off the track with the fronts alight and a fire extinguisher was used on them. An expensive day out!

Not sure what happened re my previous post, I obviously accidentally posted it whilst only half-way through, then deleted it as I couldn't finish it!

Anyway, I was just trying to say that many seem to think carbon ceramics are 'fitted-for-life' but, as with the previously 'sealed-for-life' gearboxes, life's rarely that straightforward: an expensive lesson for some. I think that the OP was extremely lucky to have them covered under warranty.

Parts availability is still an ongoing issue, a part I ordered (not for MB) in July 2021 (not 22) is still 'unavailable' but as it was simply to be held by me in 'stock', I cancelled the order after 6-months. Purely out of curiosity, I've just looked at front disc availability for one of mine, also 'out of stock'.

So did you not have use of the car for 10 months?
Used the car everyday, done 8,500 miles. Where 3k of it was 5 week trip in EU.

They quoted me in March 22 for £7,600 for a set, disc+pads. Pads alone for front axle are £1,800.
Will have paperwork next week, than will give more precise numbers.

The car is out of 3y manufacturer warranty, have extended, but this parts are not covered by MB extended warranty.
I think they must take under consideration low milage at the day this happened and one visit of special MB technician at Heathrow Service for inspection of my car in September this year.

I'd love to see an itemised breakdown of that cost.

My car is back on the road with brand new CCD, paperwork in attachment. There was a delay with one part missing, 1 week additional waiting to ship this from Germany and 3 weeks as my Instrument Cluster died..

Replacement parts as follows:
A2319057300 wear sensor (140 on diagram)
A2204210171 disk bolt (210 on diagram)
A0199907901 bolt w flange (70 on diagram)
A0004206900 brake pads
A0014211991 metal spring plate for pads (80 on diagram)
A2224211300 left disk
A2224211400 right disk

The old pads were used in about 60-70%, so the time to change them was close anyway.

In addition to service, my instrument cluster give up just before Christmas and day before the car supposed to go for service, so I was forced to upgrade to new IC motherboard with Supersport Design theme, it looks fantastic.

Bought as well new DoIP interface for OBD2, so now learning to code and I have manage to activate few new options, like RACE mode, seatbelt warning ON, alarm siren with horn and dynamic data with telemetry display.
