Change of grill to my W211 e class

Interesting feedback - at least nobody laughed! :D
We are nothing if not non-judgemental on here marc777 :D If you want one, go ahead & get one! It's your car! It'll certainly turn heads over here, people will be wondering where they can get one even while they're saying how 'wrong' it looks and going on about badges &c &c.

The US is such a status-conscious society that the badge, like the label, especially one which denotes wealth, is all-important. Here we're a bit more ambivalent about status symbols, methinks ... we tend to understate things ...for which talent the Americans envy us greatly

:D :D I have just been on a US site to get an example of an E55 with the V8 badges and guess what??

There were a couple there that were completely de-badged ;)

:D I understand where your coming from, but it is so easy to stereo type everyone. i.e. UK owners de-badge lowered powered vehicles to disguise the fact that they own a smaller engined vehicle. We appreciate this is not always the case though.

Anyway hopefully here is a US vehicle in white Just for Howard) I copied the white because the badge blends in on lighter vehicles.

Somebody makes this grille [above] with a star - its a european company, but can't recall which one  Unfortunately it comes with a frame which needs to be sprayed as it sits outside the grille on the bonnet -you can't see it on the pics on their website, whether they've photoshopped it or not, I don't know, but that put me off that one, which I have to say I prefer in terms of looks...

You asked for opinions, and I think this one below

5y7qpv

looks too bulbous, somehow :o

Anyway, its each to his own!

Enjoy the choosing, its half the fun :)

Typical ain't it? Still, I guess the exception proves the rule ...?

About the E270 CDI badges: the US simply doesn't do diesel cars. They experimented in the late 70s/early 80s but the technology was far cruder then and the noisy smoky oil-burners didn't sell well and were soon dropped. Now might be a different story and perhaps M-B will be first in the field over there ... with their V8 420 CDI this autumn?

:D :D Oooops Your at it again ;) I am definitely NOT picking on you, I am merely informing you of the current situation ;)

The US have been importing the E320CDI for quite a while now ;) although that is the only diesel powered E-class. ;) and they do not do an estate 320CDI :D

Take care,
John

Well that's good news - they need to be weaned of their heavy gasoline/derisory MPG habit IMO (whoops, duck now)

For once I'm feeling perfectly unruffled & serene and glojo thinks I'm going into one! I'm not, really! and I'm just sitting here drinking a mug of tea!!

Ultimately we'll be interchangeable - when I've survived my baptism of fire :D Who are you calling a Muppet Guy? Those two were the funniest item on that beloved show I thought! I'm honoured ;)

I'll have you know I'm one of the '60,000 muppets' sung to by visitors regularly at Old Trafford :D

Not only that, but because of the initials GG, and a rather fine Roman nose, I have been favourably compared with

 Hmm, you've got me at it now  ;) :D

Seen a few E class models with this grill on the US site. Certainly looks different and makes you stand out from the crowd. The number of W211 in our area has increased and nowadays its not as exclusive as it was a couple of years ago when it came out. I've had the car 2 years and never thought of changing anything about it but adding a lip spoiler has crossed my mind.

The grill takes design cues from the CL and looks similar but the huge star and the lack of the bonnett star would put me off...just my opinion.

Heh heh heh! Catching isn't it! There's a muppet in every one of us!

Time to bring us to order Uncle Waldorf!
