My car has been suffering from a navigation problem lately. It no longer knows where it is, and now dispays a position that is way off the map. I have booked time at the dealer to have the GPS antenna repaced on tuesay.. SO....Do you think a new antenna will cure the problem? ?

Most likely to be the GPS antenna, but on a W211 (saloon) if its been jetwashed under the bumper at the rear left water can get onto the navigation processor and connectors (through an airvent that is there), and thus i've seen a few recently that had corroded wiring or damaged navigation processors.

Thanks Richard.
I have an Estate, so I really hope the navi processor is ok. I have had apart all connectors and checked for corrosion, but everything looked fine. I'll keep you updated on the result.

Did you have a look at the navi processor itself? I guess you did if you checked the connector behind the navi processor. The GPS antenna is hidden behind the cover at the top of the tailgate, sounds odd to me but these seem to fail just about equally as the sedan antenna at the top of the rear window (pre-facelift).

Hi Diesel...
I was not able to get the antenna off the navi processor, but everything looked dry and ok down there. I just hope it is the antenna. I really don't need the extra expence it would be to change the whole unit.
But before it wandered off the map it would show the map, and it would move around so I guess the sensors in the car and the navi processor is ok.

This didnt happen just after using a new later version naviation disc did it?

No. it started when I had the original DVD in tha unit. I think it is from 2003. I have since tried newer versions of the map disc but everything stays the same.

I was under the impression that you can use newer map discs without any problems? ? ?.. Or is it possible to screw up things when updating the maps?

OK... Update.
Had the antenna changed today.. Navigation now works like a charm.. :bannana:
Dealer was unsure if tha antenna would do the trick, because thay have had probems with some other cars with the same symptoms.

Ohhh... I'm HAPPY.
