Cheap Broadband?

Have come across this site when doing a check on prices for a mate who is after broadband,I dont think the cheapeast is always best,For £14.99 a month you can get 256k or for £3 a month more you can have 1mbps all depends what really matters :) comparison

If it's cheap 512k you want try -
www.e7even.com £180 - per year (£15 per month) Free Connection etc
www.v21.co.uk 1st 3 months £10 then £16.99 a month there after
I think both of the above are unlimited etc too. I wouldn't say cheapest is always best though!!
Have a look through these sites
www.ispreview.co.uk
www.adslguide.org
www.net4nowt.com

Good Luck ;)

2 Meg for £14.99!!

I've just signed up to Plusnet Broadband Plus only £14.99 no download bandwidth limits for a 2mb service. Also move for free, no set up charge. That must be the cheapest for no bandwidth limits 2mb?

Includes 100mb webspace, unlimited POP boxes for email too. (plug, plug)

What's the catch? contention ratio is 50:1 versus 30:1 for their £21.99 premium 2mb product, and to preserve the integrity of the speeds for everyone they throttle the P2P ports during peak periods, but if you just download from websites/FTP then it isn't a problem (or queue P2P downloads off peak)
- There are no P2P restrictions on the £21.99 premium product.

The IP address is dynamic, as opposed to static for the £21.99 product.
Though I actually prefer a dynamic IP address because I don't host servers, or have a need for a static IP.

Not available everywhere, but check - if it's where you are, you can get ADSL from UK Online for £10/month for a 512kbps unlimited service. There's a £25 one off connection charge, but you get a free USB modem - or you can pay an extra £70 for a wireless modem/router.

They do faster speeds too, at reasonable prices:

2Mb - £20/month
8Mb - £30/month

(the connection charge for the 8Mb service is £50 not £25). They can do these prices because they have their own network (LLU - Local Loop Unbundling), which only covers 4.4 million homes in the UK, but it's worth checking if you're covered by looking on this list.

Here is how they advertise their service:

Up to 512Kbps download speeds
Up to 256Kbps upload speeds
Up to 33:1 contention ratio
Unlimited monthly downloads
UK based 24x7 helpdesk
FREE email with 200Mb inbox
FREE spam filters
FREE web space

All together, a pretty damn sweet deal.

i moved from BT Broadband to Tiscali for £15.99 per month for 2gig download limit 1gig transfer.

seemed pretty good value :)

I heard a radio ad this morning on the way in to work, I'm sure I must have misheard the ad as I thought they quoted 4Mbps service for £10 / month. The company was called Bulldog I think, never dealt with them or heard of them before this morning.

*EDIT* Just found the following after Googling...

http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/

*EDIT 2* Actually after reading the small print it's not that great an offer. Only applicable for the first 6 months and looks like time on-line is restricted.

Unlimited 4Meg service is £19.50 / month for first 6 months and then £29.99 pcm there after, I think.

I have just signed on with Plus.net
£21.99 per month for up to 2mb.

Hehe - checked the order tracker and I see they have only ordered 1MB for me.

One quick E-Mail later quoting Whoosh tests and the BT wholesale line checker and they have apologised and will regrade the line to 2Mb after it has been connected.

Worth checking these things sometimes!!

Wehey! On the subject of broadband, I thought this site would be of interest:
http://www.internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/

I'm on blueyonder 512kbps (free upgrade to 752kbps); and I get:
Download: 980,776 bps
Upload: 126,672 bps
QOS: 99%
RTT: 115 ms
MaxPause: 80 ms
Which is nowhere near bad :D ; but I would like to see your stats/companies ;)
Spinal

Tiscali 1MB is now £14.99 free set up etc for everyone.

I was on 1Mg with blueyonder for 25 quid. They have offered me 14.99 for a 512K service. Find the browsing speeds are not altered but downloads at 65K/s which is OK.

Blueyonder is Ok since any downtime which is very rare is rewarded with cashback on your bill.

If you are not a heavy user of peer to peer file sharing or crave for a static IP address the £14.99 unlimited bandwidth for the 2mb plan is even better value

See BT have announced their 1mb Broadband is now £15.99.

The website still offers £17.99 is there a link.
