Cheap (ish) Mobil 1 in Halfords

I stand corrected. Mobil 1 0W-40, that is what is reccomended for the C43 by Mobil. You live and learn.
I must phone Birds and ask them why 15/50.

Probably because of the better protection it offers.

MB will be speciifying thinner oil as a fuel economy aid, whereas Birds probably just want your engine to last a bit longer.

It was £37.99 last month reduced to £30.39 yesterday it had gone up to £38.00+ that's for 4 litres. strange how every things going up except the rain, as there's not even much of that coming down these days.

Hi

Just checked a receipt from Norauto in France last July 5 Litres + 1 litre free was €24 only now that is £16.32 for 6 litres meaning that 4 litres would cost only £10.88 as opposed to Halfrauds £30.39.

And guess where im going at Easter:bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Did you ever get a chance to check on the 15/50 issue with Birds?

Mobil1 0/40 (and marked as MB229.5) is currently £23.50 for 4L in Costco.

Yes they said that some C43 and C36 engines are prone to being noisey and the thicker 15/50 may reduce or even stop the noise. Not that my C43 is noisey or maby it will be if i use 0W/40

Are KwikFit still doing a Mobil One oil service for £39.95?

Basingstoke too.

0W 40 MB229.3 / MB229.5 spec on their large drum
so good for longer maintenance 2 year schedules (MB 229.5).

Though apparently you need a special fleece filter for MB 229.5 spec oil,
I don't know if the supplied UniPart filter was to that spec, but I'm changing the oil again in less than 12 months anyway.

A word of warning from first hand experience. Porsche 964's and 993's when using 0w 40 tend to suffer from oil leaks which is great for the stealers that charge lots of wonger to rectify them. Use 15w 50 and 80% of your oil leaks will never occur. In fairness I don't have any experience on MB stuff as to whether or not using thinner grade oil promotes oil leaks. I use 20w 50 on the 560sec, Castrol TWS 10w 60 in the Brabus and also recommended for the Alpina and mobil 1 15w 50 in the Porsche's.
