I washed the car this morning and discovered a couple of small chips in the paintwork on the front wing. It looks like they may have been caused when i had the car in the workshop a few days ago, but i don't suppose anyone will admit to it.
I was thinking of using Chips Away, but thought i would ask here first, if anyone has had any experience with them, good or bad.
The car is Metallic Silver by the way.

Thanks

All depends on how good your local Chips Away agent is. Luck of the draw I'm afraid.

We have a few members in Lancs so maybe someone has experience of your local agents.

I spoke with a "Chips-Away" tech as he was doing another silver MB in the works car park, I have a couple of nasty chips on my bonnet and thought he might do them at the same time.
He advised me that he would not be able to get a good enough finish on the flat bonnet. He was only doing the other MB as it was very low down on the nearside sill, virtually invisible from a standing viewpoint.
He said he would not be happy with the result on my car and neither would I. Silver Mercs are almost impossible to touch-in sucsessfully, may as well get a stick from the dealers and do it oneself :(

Small chips around 1-2 mm are easy,,over that and it gets harder

get the right touch up stick, aplly it carefully with an artists and use some langka.

Read this first - esp if you have a green car :)

Think of it as a solution that almost blends the top layers of paint and removes excess. Its not a lot of money but its also not a lot of product(quantity). It certainly worked ok on my silver SL

Thanks everyone for there input.

television, My camera is non functional at the moment dead battery, not that i would have the ability to post them anyway.
Chips are no more than 2 mm.

Mark300SL, langka sounds promising, at least it dosn't do any harm to the original paintwork if not a success.

Using a touch up base coat sprayed into the lid and a match stick or very fine brush, fill the hole, leave for 10 mins at temps 18c +. then do the same again as it will shrink when it dries . leave for ½ hour the very lightly remove any on the untouched paint with T cut, using a very light pressure as it like as soft as butter then touch up the mark again, and wipe the surface with your finger to smudge it after 2-3 sec. leave it overnight and lightly T cut the paint off again on the surrounding paint. leave it at that.

The reason to smudge the paint just before it flashes off is bring out the metalic effect, if you do not it will look/be too dark.

I am very happy to demo this at any of the meets,,it is the pro way of doing it.

The picture is magnified x10 and is the worst mark on mine in that it is long but was hard to photo as it can only be seen at a certain angle and is on a curve on the wing

I had some stone chips on my old c270. chips away wouldn't touch them as they said silver is the worst colour for matching this way as the paint tends to be darker. In the end I had the bonnet resprayed.
