I wonder if anybody can advise me on how to clean and polish the chrome grille and other chrome bits and pieces on the bumpers and side mouldings? Should I just use the normal car shampoo, or do I need to buy some 'chrome polish'?

Solvo Autosol is what I use to good effect, other people will use Megulars etc, personal choice I think. Try / test / use :D

And by the way, welcome to the club, it does get adictive (and when the mods start  oh dear)

I use autoglym metal polish on the chrome bits on mine (badges, grill and star). If you have a newer model be careful of parts which may *look* chrome but which are in fact plastic made to look like chrome ;)

Thank you Ian B Walker for the welcome.

I drive a 2003 C220 CDi Classic SE, while my wife drives a '2005' C270 CDi Avantgarde SE. Does anyone know if their grilles are real metal (or plastic imitation chrome)?

I'll double check mine tomorrow when its proper daylight but, from cleaning it many times before, I'm nearly certain that it is very much real plastic. The 'chrome' finish is quite tough though but I wouldnt recommend using chrome polish, just the final wax you use on the body work (Maguires in my case) keeps it looking bright.

Portzy.
PS Hello and welcome too. :D

Last car I had with REAL chrome was a 1966 Sunbeam Rapier.... powered by the infamous Rootes 1725cc motor...

It even had an enammelled roof!
