Actually that should be begging bucket.

GM and Chrysler: 294 pages and the numbers are staggering

"The numbers are staggering.Chrysler – which asked the US government for $7bn at the end of last year – wants an additional $9bn. GM estimates that under a worse-case scenario it will need $30bn, or $16.6bn on top of the $13.4bn of US taxpayers' money it has already gobbled up.

But what if the 'worse-case scenario' isn't bad enough? Turn to page 39 of Chrysler’s request, and you will find a rather revealing graphic which shows that its request for $9bn is based on the US domestic car industry selling 10.7m cars a year.

The graphic itself shows that the US car industry is not on track to sell that many cars this year – and instead, based on dismal January sales figures, will sell just shy of 10m cars in 2009.

The graphic goes on to show that if the US car market were to sell less than 9.1m cars a year, the industry as currently structured would not be viable. This page in Chrysler’s submission highlights why the Obama administration should not bail out the two firms again. "
