Hi,

I have just purchased a CL500 - new shape. The drivers door window does automatically not go up fully when closing the door (i.e. after dropping for opening).

Does anybody know how to rectify this problem? If I hold the door handle the courtesey window function does close the window fully but it's a pain.

I purchased it from a dealer who said it was a common fault & rectified it prior to purchase (appears to be intermittent). To be fair to the dealer he has agreed to take the car back to get it sorted out but I thought that if it was a quick self-fix then It'd be less hassle to do it myself. I have done a search of previous posts & already tried the down all the way & hold switch & up all the way & hold switch trick.

Thanks in advance

SG

assuming they have used the same system on the old cl and al the pillarless coupes - try this:-

open door.

open window half way.

remove fuse(s) for the window / comfort control

leave for 5 mins

put fuse back in.

try the auto up - if it works (but stops somewhere) then theres another fuse needing pulling - look in boot as well as engine bay

when you get it so the auto up (as in press switch fully down) doesnt work - it has 'lost' the settings.

NOW try the press and hold method.

This from Robinsons by any chance? A mate of mine's CLK 320 (facelift) has had the same trouble and they kept informing him it was fixed.

In the end they got him a replacement window motor and now all is good :)

Keep hassling them

Nope - if the dealer was that close I'd take it straight back!! To be fair to Robinsons one of the reasons I bought the CL (also considering an XKR & 3200GT) was they were so helpful when I dropped in & asked some (probably dumb) questions about the model - at that stage I knew barely nothing about a CL as they hadn't really come up on my radar until a client suggested one the day before.

Thanks for the advice Guy - must admit don't fancy pulling too many fuses out so back to the dealer I guess.

Update - in case anybody comes across this again.

I did a bit of rooting around myself, not wishing to touch the electronics & make matters worse (common trait of me I am afraid). I noticed that the window was always closing correctly when the door had to be pulled shut from a partial closure (courtesy function) - but the door intself wasn't always recognising the need for a courtesy closure. Hmm - problem with the sensor recognising the door is shut/near shut methinks.

Car duely returned to garage who confirmed that this was the case - apparently there are two door location sensors, in the B pillar and in the door itself. In this case the sensor in the B pillar was not working properly.

All now fixed (fingers crossed...). Contrary to what I thought origninally this was not a problem with the location of the window needing resetting.

Anyway - thanks to those who put up some guidance - I hope this helps someone in the future.

Enjoy the Bank Holiday guys & girls.
