I'm going to look at another clk500 tomorrow. Is an Elegance and has black chrome (was that ever standard?) not sure it looks as nice as Avantgarde but i could always buy 30 mm lower springs. The reason for looking at 4 to 5 k cars on a budget of 6 k is to leave a bit of garage fix money left over. Oh, and it has to be a v8 so v little to choose from... Cheers all

Going to look at a CLK with a clicking dashboard today... They either seem to click (dash) or tick (engine) FFS 🙄

On the plus side I phoned a specialist and explained the ticking engine noise and he reckoned it was very very rare for tappets to get sticky, so he suggested an engine flush, new oil, and then some miles might make it go away, as a first port of call.

The other clk500 in budget has had its suspension messed with by the owner 🤦‍♂️ so that would have to be declared to the insurance and that puts me off

OK, but ...

Good points. I need 4 seats so SL out.

I have had four adults in my R129 but it was pretty tight. Three (driver, one in the front, one in the back) is absolutely fine as you can move the front passenger seat a long way forward without affecting the legroom. On the driver's side I normally have the seat all the way back (I'm 6' 1") but can certainly manage with it a bit further forward to fit a kiddie in behind me. Two adults, two kids and a dog here :D

Great info thanks. Looks a squeeze but definitely better than making them catch a bus!

Does anyone know if black Chrome or black trim instead of Chrome was ever factory fitted on CLK models?

Thanks everyone. I bought a 2003 clk500. Mainly ,v good condition but has a few issues (steering tilt/extend not working, clicking heater, braking vibration) - for other threads!
