Hi Maff,
I take it you are perfectly happy with your domestic set-up otherwise you would not be asking this question.

You only live once, and my view is:

Never be in the position of saying, "If only"

If you can afford the car

If you like the car.....

I say go for it.

There are lots of alternatives, but you have clearly thought of those, so go for the CL65 and fetch it down here for my son to drool over.

I should hate to die rich, far better to die happy!! ;)

Good luck with your decision and I just know you will make the right one.

Regards,
John

Thanks for all the input guys, but I see even the forum has my problem too, as the votes are at a dead heat at the moment!!

I think i'll have to see what I can squeeze the dealer down to for my car, I recon if I can get the difference down to less than £50k then I would be happy.

As others mentioned I've thought about other cars as an alternative, but my minds really set on the CL, unless a CLK DTM comes up for the same price :)

I've got a house already, but the nagging part in me tells me I should buy a flat to rent out, and actually put the money to good use as opposed to 'waisting it on another car' as my old man puts it ;)

Will let you know how I get on...

Also meant to say that i've looked into modding my current CL, however the max is about 610bhp from the V8, but I'm not totally convinced that it's a 'true' power, as there was a 610bhp SL55 at Brunters and it was not as quick as I thought it would be.

Maff you have just changed my views. You have a house already so go for the CL

I dont think there is any doubt that you will have the money for a flat to rent out at some stage so go for it!!

*EDIT*

Can you vote twice, need to change my vote :D

If it gives you enjoyment then it can never be classed as a waste. Life is to enjoy, and that is what you are doing. If it is what you really want and can afford it then my vote would need to change as I said keep the 55, but if it keeps a smile on your face then get the thunbscrews out and negotiate a better price for yours and less for the CL65. Go on you know you can do it.

:D ;) Do I detect a decision creeping into this debate??

I think you're right John.

I am surprised at how even the poll was - i thought everyone would say do something else with the £50k.

But then as I think about it, its all relative. If you can afford then GO FOR IT. I would love to see a CL65 on the forum

I would have thought that there are not a lot of buyers out there for a CL65 and it would be easy to get the deal you want. I would just tell them what you are prepared to pay and then leave it with them and walk away. My bet is they will come round to your way of thinking, after all I bet there is a lot more than the usual £4k -£5k profit in the CL65 for them.

Good luck.

you might be 'spending' £50k... but in reality the car is costing the deprecition only. If you use that figure you'll really know what you're spending. I'm sure part of the £50k bill will leave value at the end.

Well after much harrasment from girlfriend/father i've laid my cards out on the table with the dealer with my limits for my car and the new one.

Should know by end of tomorrow they recon, they've gone off to think about it, as it's a sale or return car apparently, so not actually a stock car for the dealer.

Good luck - Although I said play safe - I do actually think sometimes you just have to do the impulse thing and go for what you want. Life is too short not to.

Hope you get it :D

Good luck :D

Just let me know if you even need a driver

Good Luck - 1300Nm torque and 700+bhp sounds like fun!

There must be a new CL due out shortly read it somewhere, wait until then or lose mega bucks if you bought now.

1300Nm of torque is madness! The stock CL65 is limited to 1100 for drivetrain issues - does the Kleeman have an uprated gearbox?

Not sure to be honest, will try to find out...
