hi guys, see pics of my new car once i've worked out how to re-size them. dug it out of the barn today, had to move all the other mercedes out of the way first though. some really nice classics in there. the man has crates and crates of spares for these older cars. he's not a fan of new fangled types he says.
boy was i dissapointed when i got to drive it. in park or neuteral, lots of revs. sounds fantastic even though i'm sure there was the occasional missfire in there too. into gear and suddenly the throttle goes unresponsive. sluggish to rev and almost no go. out on the road, really slugguish but flies when you wait the few seconds it takes to kickdown. promising but on the way back from rest it couln't climb a gradient so slight i couldn't tell it was there. not slipping mind, just rev to 8 or9 hundred and stop like the brakes are on.
rained the whole time too so not really able to do much investigating. any ideas? no "brakes are jammed on" smell. fluid red, smells ok. is this likely to be electrical or mechanical? i'm not buying it just to break it up. i'm not a masochist! i'm really keen to close this deal but not if it means 10k of repairs just to get it on the road.

Sounds like you are in limp mode. Get it connected to a diagnostics unit and work out why

i was thinking the same. on a '94 cl600 i think from reading previous posts it's an obd1??? can anyone with a code readed do this or does it have to be something special? the guy who read the codes on my range rover might be able to help. can anyone reccomend someone in the sw france, north dordodne? it will help me greatly in my search if someone could be quite specific about what codereader i need. obd 1 or 2? any special softwear? for example.

help!!!

Hi,welcome to the forum:thumb:

To be honest, I'm really struggling to read this.

Capitalisation and punctuation can make the difference between I helped my uncle jack off a horse and I helped my uncle, Jack, off a Horse. :D

OK, point taken. I repeat, with corrections made.
From reading previous posts concerning a '94 CL600 having it's codes read, i think it's an obd1? Can any code reader do this, or does it have to be something special? The technician who read the codes on my Range Rover might be able to help. Can anyone recommend someone in the S.W. France, North Dordodne? It will help me greatly in my search if someone could be quite specific about what code reader i need. Is it an OBD 1 or 2? Do i need any special softwear? Do i need any special connectors to plug into my Mercedes?

Many thanks in advance.

You will have the old Mercedes Specific 38 pin round connector under the bonnet.. not later standardised OBD.
Only someone with Star or someone with the Pre 1999ish Mercedes connector will be able to read it..

These cars dont like being stood in barns and are blooming hard to diagnose, I wish you luck!

Hi, thanks for that. It's only a machine. How hard can it be. Ha ha ha!!! I'll bring it to my garage tomorrow so that's when the fun will start in earnest. Poor earnest! I'll keep you all posted. You never know, it might just help someone else too. Warm regards, stewart
