To highlight how acceptable standards have changed the programs listed by Andy would definitely not be allowed to be shown in our modern politically correct age but the likes of Joe Brand with her vulgar jokes appears to be perfectly okay, but no way would they have been allowed when these other programs were at their height! Madness.
Alf Garnett was not to my particular taste but he was a popular actor and his programs were well supported. Strange how the woirds he used are now perhaps deemed arrestable but they are acceptable when used by Rap singers (tactfully worded for the PC brigade)

John
Alf Garnett was making fun of racists but he said on a recent documentry thay people used to come up to him and say "well done for calling them n*ggers and p*kis etc". He would reply by telling them that he was actually taking the p*ss out of people like them!!
Personally I think the words used by rap singers are bad and it will change over time and we'll think, "christ do you remember when rappers used to say X, Y and Z" Poor Rosa Parks didn't do what she did for black rappers to reverse the situation 50 years later.
Haven't we always had people moaning about whats right and wrong about TV regardless of whats being made, Marry Whitehouse etc.
Alot of people think the Royal Family are out dated and out of touch and its time we got rid of them. Alot of people would say that this is a modern way of thinking and has come about since the end of the empire. However history shows us the there have always been anti royals going 100's of years back.
Moaning about political correctness will always continue and I think we have to keep ignoring it or making fun of it.
As for old shows not being made anymore. there is alot more on todays TV that wouldn't be made years ago.
For example: the very funny scene in The Office when the girl in the wheelchair was left in a stairway during a fire drill because she was to heavy to carry down and countless scenes in Extras.
It's it amazing what we all end up talking about when thir forum is actually design for discussion about Nazi Shifters!!!
