Morning all...
Can anyone recommend a cleaning product for chrome AMG exhausts? I've tried quite a few but none of them get rid of the black stain normally found at the bottom of the pipes. I like my pipes to be clean.........
Thanks!

Autosol.

If you clean fairly often it only takes a couple of minutes each time.

Yep autosol - its a miracle metal cleaner ! once done I found a light spray with WD40 makes it much easier to wipe clean between autosol bouts

I use a little wonder wheels...............I know its a bit acidic....but on a diesel exhaust tips there is a lot of black crud and this seems a good way of getting it off.

I used Brasso and it cleaned them 1st time, ive heard its not a good idea to keep using it though...

Are the pipes chromium-plated, or are they stainless steel (more likely) ?

If they are stainless, brasso is not likely to do them any harm, as long as you completely remove all residue after use.

Johnsco

They're AMG pipes - to be honest I'm not sure whether they are chrome or stainless steel. But Autosolv seems to get the vote so I'll pop down to my local Halfords and pick up a tube. Sounds like a perfect job for a Sunday morning to me!
Thanks all!

AMG tips are chrome (decent thick chrome, too) :)

Hi trando,

I have a boat that has a lot of brasswork that used to take up a lot of time cleaning and getting it shiney, I also have chrome tiped AMG exhaust pipes.

I have an extremley efficient way of cleaning these things vey very quickly. Whilst the aforementioned cleaning products are good you will have to use quite a lot of time and elbow grease to get the perfect results....

Now I have a solution that will only take 5 - 10 mins to beautify your AMG tips that is tried and tested and will be as cheap as chips cost wise!!!! and with very little elbow grease it will shift the black baked on carbon very easily. :D

If you would like further info please post and I''ll enlighten you.....

I know these are not very dirty but its the black stuff thats hardest to get clean these have only covered 3500 miles but they still look like new.

why not share it with all of us?

Oh Ok then....:D

The stuff is called shiny sinks and can be bought from most supermarkets for around £2 per bottle.

I'm sure I have even seen it in Aldi for £1.50.

I just use a soft cloth and wipe or rub gently the dirty area to get off all the hard stuff it will just wipe off amazingly easily. Then shine up with any old polish.

I could not believe how well this stuff works, we were hard at it on the boat (cleaning the brasses) when a fellow boater tipped up with this stuff. Over the years we would polish up the brasses taking hours to get em shiny only to rain overnight and they would be dirty again.

Try it, and if it dont work clean your sink out. :D Shiny Sinks is the blue bottle...;)

ok- for £2 it's got to be worth a go. Thanks... I'l lelt you know how I get on. All I have to do now is pluck up the courage to enter Aldi...

Just back from Prenton Aldi - no joy - loks like the full £2 will be spent (spent that on juice in the CLS I guess :)

£1.55 at Wilkos if you have one nearby. I bought a bottle today only to get home and the Mrs to say "whats that for, there is some under the sink"! :o
