Cleaning the Windscreen

On the same subject, I treated my wind shield with some rain repellent "RainX". With the cold weather, I have smears wiped over the screen which makes it rather dodgy looking out sometimes . Screen washer is winter cold weather liquid heated as should be in the reservoir. Could it be because my wiper blade is dead? Any other ideas?

Keep the RainX for the side glass and mirrors

newspaper and vinegar is supposed to be good (according to Kim & Aggie)

I've used AutoGlym Car Glass Polish inside & out for years and always been delighted with it.

For cloths I use old tea-towels washed without fabric conditioner - running them through the machine on its hottest wash is a good thing to do to the washing machine now & again.

Polish gives perfect results but you need to be tidy especially inside.

For the outside you cant really beat AutoGlym Fast Glass, however last summer i had the joy of using a relativly new, and un heard of product.

Spautopia Pure X Glass Cleaner
Spautopia PureX Glass Cleaner and Protector 500ml

Great cleaning power, and leaves a water replant layer, equal to the Rain X product. - At 35-40mph the rain water beads off the glass, with no judder or noise from the wipers!

For the inside, i simple use a clean MF cloth,

Patrick
(yes im a bit of a detailing geek)

I don't know this product but for it to repel rain it must be some sort of coating I imagine which is probably being removed by the wipers.

Can I ask why you've used this stuff instead of using you wipers?

This stuff: Rain-X® Original Glass Treatment
Works normally super well when it rains and wipers can be used in intermittent mode 99% of the time. However in this cold snowy salty weather, not working very well. Will try getting new wiper tomorrow

But they will eventually wear off so where will they run to?
I'm an anorak with car cleaning. I've cleaned and re-sealed before anything would get chance to run off! :thumb:

The worst ones are these auto car washes that just spray the wax all over, probably the main culprit for smudgy windscreens
Ahhh. We may be at cross purposes. I've never used a car wash. I only ever wash my own cars. I'm not talking liquid wax. I'm talking spending hours hand polishing wax! :D

Fairdos King68, I was just pointing out to people less fastidious than yourself the causes of smudgy windows. Personally I never use anything other than soapy water, leather and microfibre

A good thing they don't use lead in printing any more, otherwise we would have to consider health issues :D

Any glass cleaner and some kitchen roll works well for me
