CLK 2.7 Diesel wont`t start, electrics gone crazy

Tried to start the Merc today but the engine just about turned over as if the battery was flat and then the clock in the dash was continueing to wind itself backwards without stopping !
The car would not lock or unlock so I put the key in the ignition, turning it on and off several times and after a while the clock reset itself to the correct time, and everything was normal untill I tried starting the engine again and this time it didn`t turn over but the clock started to turn backwards again.
Awaiting Green Flag to arrive, hope I just need a new battery.

Yes your right, thanks for your reply.
Now because of what happened this morning the service indicator has lit up as A service is due although yesterday the A service was due in 11500 miles time !!!
I think I will put this new problem as a new post so I get a response.
