Just been to look at a set of Mercedes wheels and tyres, really liked them and the tyre fitter started to fit them in place of mine. He swapped my tyres onto the front as the wheels for sale had 245/45/17 tyres on all four. Having fitted the near side pair he then asked me to turn my car around to change the other side.
The bloody car wouldn't budge and he said I would need spacers.
Now I'm trying to find out what size spacers and where to get them , also as we cannot find out what the wheels came off ( I suspect a CLS ) will they be ok for my CLK as I have to use 225/45/17 on front and 245/45/17 on rear ..... Any help would be appreciated before I part with my cash

This is screaming "bodge" from the very start.

Working out the real reason why they're not fitting would be a good start, rather than an offhand "Oh, it needs spacers" comment. Assuming they're not staggered sizes (which the original tyre size would bear out) the offset on CLS 218 wheels is fairly similar to the 209 so that shouldn't be a problem. 219 might be as there's a bigger difference.

2nd problem I can see from the off is that the tyre sizes are wrong - the rears should be 245/40, not 45.

see the 'will these tyres' AWD sticky at the top of this forum

Tell us the offset from the inside of the wheel and the dimensions (width and diameter) and then we'll help you know what you need.

Thanks for the advise , I'll pop over tomorrow and get all the dimensions off the wheels for sale...... Just checked my tyre sizes and I've definitely got 245/45/17s on the rear is this correct ? I've looked at the sticky as suggested and everything seems ok for my W209
I will only purchase the wheels if it is safe to perform any adaptions needed they were tried with my existing bolts which fitted ok

If they are staggered set most 17 inch alloys have from factory

225/45/17 front
245/40/17 rear

As horgantrevor says. The rears are wider but lower.

Be careful with spacers. Use only H&R. Remember that you will also have to change your wheel studs to accommodate the extra length introduced by the spacers.

Dependant on the off-set of your wheel? You have to check that in getting the spacer to clear calipers etc, you do not end up with the wheel/tyre rubbing the arches (usually rears) or the fronts extending out past the arch line (MOT failure).

In short. Spacing can be a nightmare and expensive. Be very sure this is the route you want to go down.

I've measured the wheels for sale .... Don't understand much about offsets etc, but have noted what I measure....
Firstly there is a marking inside 8 1/2. JX17H2
Diameter is 420mm
240mm width of wheel

150mm from back of wheel to bolt on plate.. and that is 45mm to front deep and 55mm to front of wheel deep on rear wheel.

I measured my front wheel and the only difference is the depth of the middle hole mine being 65mm

Wheels are put aside for me if I can source whatever I need to fit them.. If I can't I know of a good set of twin spoke wheels with four good 245/45/17 tyres for sale.

Any help will be appreciated
