CLK 500 CAB...PDI Accident...

Glad you enjoyed the car, Flash.

BMW can be pretty good with the test drives - they recently lent me a V8 X5 from Friday to Monday and agreed that I could take it over to Bruges during that time, all under their insurance - best Merc would do was a 20 minute round the block accompanied test drive. Not the best way to get a customer to part with their cash......

Cheers - car was superb... What has ur after sales been like with BMW with ur M3?

Very good, on the whole - had one problem at a service where they did not screw on the power steering reservoir lid properly, but other than that excellent service, and not that expensive either.

Just like Marcos said, I agree that there are good and bad dealers of all brands - there are certainly plenty of dealer complaints on the BMW forums. Generally speaking though, I have personally found the BMW dealers more willing to go out of their way to help than the Merc dealers I have dealt with, who have normally been more on the arrogant side. Sorry if this is an unpopular comment - just giving my honest opinion with no axe to grind (I don't even own ANY car at the moment, and the next one could be a Merc or a BMW, or Audi, etc....)

Your experience with a Mbz dealer is not uncommon.

Having had a similar experience with a certain local dealer i know where ur coming from. I tried the be a nice guy approach and believe me it did not work. I think if i did what you did maybe i could have got somewhere. It was my first Mbz and being new to the brand i decided it would make sense just to use another Mbz dealer. How often do someone let the dealer off for swapping your new wheels for some corroded ones....I just didn;t have the time but felt like kicking the Principal in the teeth and believe me if he said anything to my wife that roundhouse would be making contact with his face.

I do think deealers vary and the one i use now is very good. They ring me and keep me informed. i'm having the new alloys put on this week.

Car dealers vary btw marques and within the same brand of car.
I also drive a Civic and recently had some new tyres/alloys put on.
The tyres were asymetric and the fitters at Honda put them on worng way round.......but swapped them immediately when i complained.

The dealership should be named and like Portzy i would rather travel 20 miles to harrogate for good customer service that visit those arrseholes as you say.

645Ci...now you got me thinking.......

I happen to get treated like royalty at the Local MB dealers but when I went to BMW to look at cars I was treated like a leper.
It is down to the individual dealer at the end of the day and you could have a great BMW dealer next to you and a bad MB one or vice versa.
Just out of interest has anyone ever dealt with VW dealers? Now they ALL seem to have an attitude.
Wish that same dealer treated me like that! And when I test drove the car they would only allow me a 20 minute test drive, despite me asking for an extended drive. The reply was its not their policy.

Glojo – the 645i Cab is nice and there is one available cancelled order with all the toys and will built in 3 weeks time – CLK is having face life next year anyway. End of day its wifey’s car and its up to her and the 645I is looking favourite unless she decides to hang on for new Porche Boxster that is out soon but that wait is going to be too long/far way for her.
Good luck and let us know what you decide. The 645 does look a nice car but I've never seen one close up, or sat in one. The new Boxster does look nice but the waiting list is going to be very long, they are talking end 2005 delivery!

The 645 is very nice, as its higher up in the BMW range it should retain its value a bit better and will remain fairly exclusive. Thats always been my reservation with the CLK, there just are too many around.

That's a good point. As there are not many around (ie, they haven't been churning them out for years) it should retain it's value for a while, like you say. ;)

Fortunately, I don't think it has been a flop like the 8-series was!

Cheers,

Will

Thanks to everyone’s replies… much appreciated.

I will keep everyone updated on the purchase.

Adam: I remember reading ur post about your alloys… the new ones are they MBs (same as originals/warranty claim) or are you upgrading them? Believe me I felt like hitting the matey at the stealership but would have had to face servere consequences with boys in the blue afterwards.

Richard: 645I CAB it is going to be – If we do get to go to next GTG (and we are welcome to bring the 645I Cab…) then yourself and everyone else is more then welcome to sit inside and go for a spin…

Will/Tan: I was thinking the same as yourselves about exclusivity and hopefully retaining the value a little bit more. It is down to members on this forum that pointed me in the right direction towards the 645I Cab and I really appreciate that – Thank You.

Your right Flash.....thats always the downside isn't it.
With me the dealer visited my place of my work and after that its was quite difficult to even pretend to be a common thug.....its was my reputation on the line....one can always think of hitting idiots like that but whether u actually follow it thru is a different matter......its always wiser to use your head as we both know.

Good luck with your 645Ci and I'll see ya at the BMW forum
http://forum.bmwcarmagazine.com/default.asp say hi to Beeswax for me.

Sorry guys not to poach a member but he's gotta know more about his car...know what i mean....He likes his Mercs so he might come back.
