First post so be gentle, and advanced apologies if there are a million threads I should have found with a Search.

I am looking for a something for my g/f and I to gently cruise about in on the nice sunny days but have no experience of Mercs whatsoever. We have been to look at a couple on a forecourt and think they do seem very classy, particularly with the roof down. I would like to keep the budget to 16/17k.

Since we have other more sporty cars I dont think we really want one of the big engined cars since we are not really looking for any great performance and would like reasonable economy, comfort, 4 seats, roof down motoring.

There are a lot of cars within the budget with 50-70k miles on sale. I take it that, if serviced properly, the mileage shouldn't be too much of an issue?

Also, some are advertised as 'Elegance' trim and others as 'Avantgarde' but its not that easy to see what is so different. Is one better than the other?

Auto/manual .. Although I dont really like automatics I instictively I think it should be an auto

Other than that I would be grateful for advice, tips, pointers and the benefit of anyones ownership experience.

Thanks in advance

Jim

Pretty much says it all.

Auto is to be preferred and I think a manual will be hard to find anyway.
