Hiya,
I have a clk 320 cabriolet with motion sensors fitted to the pillars. I've read some of the posts about these but wondered if anyone knows how to disable them. I have a dog so its neccessary.
I have set the alarm, it has gone off cos of the dog and then I have reset it, sometimes its ok sometimes it just goes off again. There is no switch to disable them.
Any ideas would be great.
MB service geezer reckons they can only be turned down ie turning the sensitivity down.

My last CLK had a switch in the dash on the centre part which disabled the sensors for just that purpose. It was mentioned in the manual I think. I might be wrong as it was a while ago.

Alfie,
There is a switch if you want to tow it, on the coupe this normally doubles up as the motion sensor as well, but not on the cabriolet.

mmm - I'd have thought it would have had the motion sensor switch of switch - my SLK has it  it's a dual purpose switch up to switch of for towing and down for interior motion. It does have two graphics on though. Does yours just have the tow symbol?

yup just the tow signal.

European import cars that are not to UK spec generaly dont have the disable motion sensor switch.

When I imported my CLK Cab the UK dealer said they would not touch it unless it had this switch, as they used this as their yardstick to make sure it was a 'UK Spec' vehicle.

This is a Uk spec, non import. The sensors may have been dealer fitted here in the UK as I gather this was common.

I thought the days of dealers retro fitting alarms was over well before the CLK320 was released?

my clk cab has a switch to allow towing AND disable the sensors.

cant see any sensors though!

what does that mean!?!

its a full UK spec import which was imported brand new.

My CLK has dealer fitted sensors (fitted when the car was new). At that time, the cabriolet didn't have standard fit sensors. The disable switch is for towing only - it doesn't disable the sensors.

They are hopeless when the roof is down - the alarm just goes off every few minutes after the car is locked. I suppose I could fit a disable switch somewhere - I found the control unit for the sensors - it's mounted against the off-side rear wing, behind the interior boot trim.

Thanks for that Paul, I'll check as to whether I have the control unit, meanwhile i'll just try turning the sensitivity right down.

Are You Sure

hey guys i got a 2001 clk cab and i have the switch on my dash built in along with towing sign i know because i leave the car with the roof down quite often (when the sun is out :bannana: )

check your manual failingthat go to the dealer because if these vehicles are not import they come standard

cheers

don

i think on my W208 cabrio when the roof is down, the sensors are off....

how about fitting your own switch - easy enough to do - just put it in the boot where the wire goes to the battery, or if you are feeling adventurous wire it up to a switch in the cabin

never really had a problem with mine, occasionally goes off and i assume its a spider or fly or soemthing thats trapped in the car.

I've Checked the manual don its the first thing I do.
Fitting some kind of switch in the boot is hardly elegant or convenient for £40,000 car!
Even my old 220te estate had a small switch on the key fob which turned it on or off.
Looks like I'll just have to turn them off.

is this a W208 or W209 model?

i know a swhich in boot is not elegant but if you want to switch them on/off then since there is no factory switch for that then its your only choice.

if you want to do it "properly" then why not get a car electrition place to do it?

Hmm.
You're right I may just have to fit the switch, the best way would be to get the coupe double switch and wire it in to that.
Interested in your PC mod when its ready.

on its way - just got a load of new parts from the dealers so got to fit them 1st (mirrors, interior trim, and aux loom).

Just figured it out. When they fitted the sensors they wired the disable directly to the tow away switch. So you have to disable tow away at the same time. It would have made sense to have just chnged the switch for the same one as is in the clk coupe ie: a double one. Now I know all the wires must go to that switch its probably not such a difficult job to install the new switch.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
