Clk centre console removal-how?

Hi All,
I have a 2000 clk230 and after my youngest poured a can of fizzy drink down into the centre console it seems to have messed the electrics up in there.
I have to get at the auto gear selector assembly.
I don't want to damage it- I can get the footwell sections free, but it seems very secure at the top and no securing clips or screws are visible. Perhaps there are screws under the pop up cup holder?
Any info gratefully received.

There is a thread here with pictures showing the removal of W210 gear selector cover to get at the W/S switch. Try a search on "sorting S/W switch problems" (stuck in Winter mode). Your system should be similar.
