The digital automatic gear shift read-out seems to be damaged - only part of the read-out can be seen ie. part of the D (drive) is blacked out.....not sure what has caused this and how it can be fixed?

Any feedback/suggestions would be welcome.

Dead pixels on the LCD screen most likely, unfortualty, these cannot be replaced if that is the trouble!

Are you sure? It is possible to replace the units that have the bulbs for warnings and failures, they are available separately.

Well, I think enigma-uk means the instrument cluster screen, even if it's not available as a separate part, the whole cluster isn't *that* expensive to replace, although if you include stealership labour and the computer use to transfer the mileages, ASSYST data etc you're looking at a good £500 job there :(

Thanks Shude.....you are right it is the instrument cluster screen - sorry I hould have made it clear. The auto gearshift display is on the extreme right corner of the instrument screen in the CLK.

I think it is the pixels that are damaged. I have seen this happen on laptops.

I wonder if my car warranty will pay for this? Maybe I should check on this!

If the car is less than three years old I think it will. I had an entire COMAND system replaced under warranty - because the eject system for the nav CD didn't work properly. I also had the boot lid replaced (rust round the key hole) and the engine had a few modifications too.

All this on a 2000 X plate CLK 55 AMG. The best bit ? I didn't even ask for it to be done - the dealer did it for me. Spent the best part of £4k doing bits to it - I paid zip.

Find a dealer and ask them.

I have had this fault...

If the car is under warranty, then it will be replaced free of charge.

I haven't changed mine yet, as all the pixels went (clock and gear display) over three years ago and now are all back except 3 of them. I prefer the dealers not messing about so I left it.
