CLK430 indicator problem

Hi

2001 CLK430 Convertible. Left hand indicators come on by themselves. If indicator stalk was lifted a little lights go off but after 30 mins of this technique L/H indicators permanently on. If stalk moved to turn right then R/H lights OK but when wheel moved to straight ahead the stalk cancels to correct position then L/H indicators come on and fiddling with the stalk no longers cancels L/H indicators.

Stalk switch or electronic control gizmo??

Stalk , common problem , new one about £90 , dont buy a secondhand one as the problem may already be there.
