CLK55 loss of power

Judging by the bill it was a genuine Bosch - it's not unheard of for MAFs to become contaminated from silicone from the manufacturing process - but 3 in a row?

Although it was an independant garage that fitted them, they were bought through a Merc dealership so I would assume they are genuine.

If the engine was running that badly then you'd expect a fault code to be thrown and the check engine light come on

What age is the car - the older UK cars didn't have the 'check engine' light enabled, until EOBD (European version of US OBD legislation) came into force which required the check engine light. Of course all the faults are logged, so a dealer (or someone just with an OBD/EOBD scanner, since were talking about the engine management system) can read the faults and tell you what is up.

My W208 CLK55 didnt have the light enabled - I turned it on using Star Diagnosis as a friendly dealer ;-) but luckily it never came on

Cheers
Richard

Could it be the old V8 ENGINE earthing strap problem where the cable only makes intermittant contact?? quite common problem on the c43.

If you have a K&N oiled filter (it's something AMG owners go for) some say that it can shed oil onto the MAS and cause it to fail.
K&N dispute this (I have no opinion).

The cheapest way to get more power out of the NA M113 is with a $100 X-link in place of the resonator box. So they say. After that, polished headers...

The fault codes logged for air mass faults relates to self-adaption and doesnt actually say "air mass faulty". Unless your faut code reader is sh1t hot it wont pick these up. Live values can also be read to give an indication too.

Best update this for anyone else having this issue.

The problem was rectified after the dealership recommended having all 16 spark-plugs and leads replaced.

It's been perfect ever since.

Can I ask at what cost?

I just had the plugs done at the main dealer - mine only has 12 plugs though - and that cost £270 + VAT IIRC with a 15% discount on labour for being cheeky. Plugs were £9.36 each plus VAT IIRC. HTH

I did mine myself - though I have a feeling with jumper leads you're looking at £600 all in - add £1k if you're changing coil packs.

It was around the £650 mark for 16 plugs and leads, I forget (or want to) the exact amount.

It seems unlikely that all of the jumper leads were faulty - what happened to the old ones? You could sell them on ebay for £50.
